I don't make games anymore due to mainly working every Sunday.
With a new baby, mortgage and car to pay for I simply can't afford if I have work off to go and watch.
I do have money put away should we get to bigger games but I can't afford to go watch us play every week.
Sad times for me because I love my rugby league and the Giants.

Quote: meast "i'm suggesting that by being successful, teams usually have to play conservatively at times, and have to resort to boring 1 up rugby to win games, i can't think of many times who just throw the ball around for 80 minutes who were succesful, warrington did it a few years ago and got found wanting when they had to adjust the way they played.

my point was that if people want to see us just play open rugby all the time then they shouldn't complain when we fall short of winning things.'"

I respect your views mate , but to be honest they don't stack up to me.
Saints have a long history of playing open football, as do Wigan, Leeds have had some of the best teams to watch, Look at the cups over the last 20 years and see who has won them all, that's not coincidence.
Bradford are possibly the only odd one out, They had a huge pack ( of which PA was a member ) They battered teams up the middle for half a game and then the backs would have a field day.
Warrington have played some great football since smith took over, and up to this season have always been in the mix, besides winning a cup or two, And what's more they will be back. They have given us some pain over the years, and not with boring football.

Cas acquired the name Classy Cas, "going back a bit "They didn't win all that much but they were a joy to watch, and the crowds rolled up to watch them.

Giants have shown they can play good open Rugby on occasions, and I'm not saying teams throw the ball about with gay abandon for 80 minutes, I'm disputing what you say about not being able to have open football if you want to win anything.

And should we develop a better style to try help bring crowds in, I don't see anyone blaiming it for us not winning anything. cause we are not winning anything now.

We are 4th in the league, Granted It's our defence that has got us there but still we are not far off the top sides, by and large , with a couple of Class players in key places we can be a match for anyone, and we can do it without the kind of Tripe we saw on Sunday. This year all our best efforts have been against the top sides, we need to do it every week if we want people to come and watch, " other than the ones who will come no matter what drudge is turned out.
I guess at the end of the day we shall have to agree to disagree

Quote: GIANT DAZ "I offered a few ideas to Ken, Richard and Paul Morgan a few months back through a HGSA committee meeting with the board and every idea i had, which i thought were ok and worth a try was met by a stern NO !! by Mr Thewlis.
Guess if the club aren't prepared to try new ideas and are just reliant on people turning up they will never get any better as we have already seen even ex season ticket holders aren't even doing that these days let alone total newbies !!'"

What were your ideas Daz?

I'm a big believer in targeting certain fixtures as 'tent pole' type events that you base your season around. Focus most of your efforts on key fixtures , the obvious big 4 of Wigan, wire, saints and particularly Leeds . Hype the granny out of those fixtures. Use similar type marketing as Wigan did when they did something similar for their 'big one' fixture. Maybe add another to that group, Cas would be the obvious ones at the minute.

There is some built in interest in the bigger games from neutrals or more casual fan and this can transfer to lower profile games, if they get lured into the bigger games.

Best bet would be to try and work with those clubs involved. Maybe do something collabaratively for the home and away fixtures.

All this grand standing said, I've been pants at getting to matches this season, and I have a season ticket. Not by design, but life has got in way a lot this season. icon_sad.gif wakey was my first match for seemingly ages.

I've suggested a mini ST ticket before- I've bought them for the ice hockey which we occasionally go to watch in the RL offseason, they have a take 5 or super 7. The problem is the club are so terrified that people will buy these INSTEAD of regular STs that they don't want to offer them.
If it were me I'd Keep the cheap deals of regular season tickets on until AFTER the fixture list comes out- and when the fixtures come out then also offer the mini tickets.

Never saw the logic of closing the old £99 season ticket deal in November even if you missed a few games and bought one in April it would be a good deal to someone who got into the GIants early in the season.

the club are doing deals for non ST holders for the super 8's,which works out at £17.50 per game, would that tempt you into buying one if you were a non ST holder?

With the dates known it is fair enough if you know you can make all 4 games but I think the take up will not be massive but even a few is better than nothing especially if they move on to a season ticket in future.

I think the Super 8's fixtures today show where the game is inevitably heading. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Sundays are not going to be a viable option going forward, I would move games to Friday at, say, 7:45. They may not shift any more bums on seats, but playing Friday will at least minimise disruptions with the only movement to Thursday, and that'll be a uncommon occurrence, happening more and more towards the Super 8's - buts that's something we can do nothing about.

Sundays actually don't have that big an increase in the crowds, especially this year on last. Obviously it needs to be combined with better promotion and more effort from the club to try and get people into the ground. I think Fridays are the best idea going forward.

Various ticket options ie a family ticket, a couples ticket, grouping games together and buying a particular package and basically getting large companies in the town involved and offering their employees discounted tickets for a certain area if the company sponsored a match for a certain amount !!

ideas that i thought could be tried just to see if it would make a difference but all were dismissed.

The problem Daz is that the club think many of the people who would take up these offers would either otherwise buy season tickets or come at full price- to some extent they are correct- how many times have we seen regulars ask for buddy/cut price tickets?
IMO The main issue is the changing kick off times. If things were settled people would be able to commit.
Be interesting to see if the super8s tickets are taken up with most on Fridays
