| i agree about the agressive marketing etc, it worked for bradford, although we detested them for it and still do loathe them for it,it got people talking and more importantly going to the bulls! they hadn't had much success until '97/98 but still got the crowds in and it helped to extend that success.
i feel this is one area we have failed in, lots of people know about the giants but how many actually talk about them? maybe the odd few people who know i'm a supporter but on the streets of town etc there is nothing.
my work is a good example,i can talk rugby and fartown with most of them,a lot of them have a passing interest and usually ask the score or mention it if they know it,but out of all these people only 2/3 have ever been to a game, one now comes fairly regularly with me, but apart from that there is little incentive for me to try and get people to come down.
maybe, just maybe some aggressive marketing, advertising around town could get people talking about the giants and that, along with good deals on tickets might just get them along.
it's no good really just charging £24 for a game when the only people who know about a game being on are the people who are fans or who are going to the game.
i suspect however,as we saw earlier on in the season that there could be a lot of resentment from season ticket holders who feel they have got a raw deal.
it's catch 22 really.

| What is frustrating is being stopped on the way home and asked by passers by what the score was!
Clearly interest but it needs to be kindled

| A tad ironical isn't it.
Here we are, talking about how to increase attendances and we are falling over backwards to get free - already paid for - tickets!!!
Only an observation, not necessarily a criticism.

I usually tell them the score then say something like- its a lot more exciting to go watch the game than ask a stranger the score.

Unfortunately that's what usually happens to the cheap tickets the club give out- they go to someone who would probably be there anyway.

| But if they are already bought surely it is better for them to be used rather than sat on a mantlepiece or in a drawer somewhere....plus it adds to the attendance.
Think it shows that if prices were cheaper more would come straight away just by going on this thread !

| its £21 if you pre purchase not £24.
so what price do people think is acceptable to pay on the gate???? bearing in mind that the season ticket price is £199 (works out around £15 a game) if its lowered much more would people be put off buying a season ticket which is the most important thing to the club??? maybe.
its been mentioned on here before that students or even some people who know people who work at uni can get tickets for £7.50 and even at that harldy any get sold...people just arent interested.
its around £27 to watch huddersfield town on the gate.
£24 to watch wigan warriors on the gate
£27 to watch leeds rhinos in the north stand
so looking at above £21 to sit side on and to watch a team whos in the top 2 in the league isnt that bad is it???
if we are to lower prices then people are going to have to lower the expectations of the team and maybe be glad if we just get in the top 8 in the future.

I think that at £19.50 on the gate there is a psycholgical element of it been less than £20.
Plus having a season ticket with a guaranteed seat and the various vouchers and discounts still make it popular.
Even with the loss on tickets to away fans you might get more coming as it will be cheaper to follow the away team to Huddersfield than say Leeds or Wigan.
Some people do think about picking and choosing away games to go to and that little price incentive may be enough to bring more fans through the doors

| Gate prices are the prices that are most relevant to casual supporters, which is the issue at hand.
Also, I don't think you can gauge whether people are interested based on University ticket offers. Realistically, what is the expected take up of these tickets when probably most students and possibly staff (if the offer is open to them) are not from Huddersfield and have little interest in the Giants or even Rugby League?

| High schools are the area they need to target. The team go into primary schools for me it's a waste of time -unless your family is already interested in RL it's unlikely that the majority of 8 year olds have ever seen a game of rugby league, most don't do that sort of thing in P.E. they've been to my lads school and most of the kids in his class were clueless as to who they were. They go home and may possibly tell their parents about their day meeting rugby players- the parents haven't been involved aren't interested so nothing happens. Believe me asking an 8 yr old to tell their parents is a waste of time!
However many high schools have teams, the kids know a bit about what rugby league entails- they are better able to articulate that to their parents- and those higher up in the school are old enough to come without parents with a group of mates!
The walk up price needs to be reasonable - I do think £24 is a bit too much. £20 for an adult would be about right- and £5-7 for a teenager is pocket money prices (allegedly)

| £19 on the gate (less change to deal with than 19.50)
£17 pre-order
£15 season ticket weekly cost is still far more attractive IMO
Leeds and Wigan can charge that because they have the track record of winning & big crowds already - we need to grow crowds and if the present system isn't working change what you can and what might have most effect.
Again, I might be in the minority but I buy my season ticket so I don't have to think about finding the cash when there is a home game, tickets bought and I can forget about it then. So I'd be happy to see the club roll out the occasional special deal like bogof, 2/3 or such like SO LONG AS THEY PUBLICISE IT
Quote: If we build it they will come "

Now, problem with that is two fold
1. The uni absolutely failed to promote this deal. I know a lot of students who didn't have a clue about it
2. They were only available through the uni shop - the shop is only open in normal term time & not at all at weekends. 80% of the super league season happens outside of term time - ergo even if students knew about it and wanted to go, try couldn't buy tickets
It's a classic example of the club having a great initiative at top level but failing to operate it at the bottom level - I.e. their interaction with the fans and possible customers is poor, very arms length
"If we build it they will come" is not the mantra to follow.
"If we build it, we need to market it" is what they need to think like.

£17 pre orde would be too cheap and work out at £221 against a one lump sum of £199 for a season ticket, people would just go for the former and thats no good for the club planning a budget etc.
i just picked leeds and wigan, sure our prices still compare very well with other super league clubs??
ken davy does the maths and hes made alot more money than most of us so who am i to argue with what he wants to charge for his business
