Impressed more with the second than first half. A lot of the territory was given to us by an error strewn half from wakey. They began to pick up towards the end of the first half and looked more dangerous. Second half they were better but we managed to over come the purple patch and get back up on top! Big efforts! Good wirk lads

Quote: GiantJake1988 "Good 2 points and keeps us in the hunt.

Didn't think we were great tonight, but Wakefield were very poor with lots of errors especially in first 25 mins.

Thought Wakefields shuffling defence was good in first 25 mins we couldn't break them, only in the corner.

Couple of baffling decisions at end of first half to keep Wakefield in the game... the Jones-Bishop knock on which he let play on and the ball going out on the full ....Gaskells foot clearly behind the line when he caught it., but replays may show otherwise, ill have to wait and see.

Crippled with penalties in first 20 mins of 2nd half some cheap ones and some genuine ones but Wakefield couldn't capitalise and then the Ref evened it up with a few for us.

Going to have to be better next week to beat Wigan away I feel.

Lawrence, Roberts, Ferguson may all feature.'"

Rule change as of this year. foot behind line is now out. Seems Gaskell wasn't aware of the rule change either....

Not from a kick off it isn't Jools, only if the ball has bounced does that rule count

I thought the score flattered wakey
Giants didn't get out of second gear

This is a transcript of what clubs were given by the RFL about 2017 rule changes
“The previous rule of a player being able to straddle the dead ball line or touch in-goal line and be awarded a 20m restart has now changed.

Where the ball is stationary in the in-goal area comes into contact with a player in touch, in goal or over the dead ball line, the ball is deemed to have been made dead by that player. The ball must have bounced on the ground either on or over the dead ball line/touch in goal line for a 20m restart to be awarded.”

I take that to mean the ball must have bounced for the 20 metre restart to be awarded Not for the dropout.

Drop-out from Goal line 4. The game is restarted with a drop-out by a defending player from the centre of his goal line if:

(a) a defending player last touches the ball before it goes over the dead ball line or into touch in-goal.

(b) a defending player accidentally infringes in the in-goal area.

(c) a defending player touches down in the in-goal area.

(d) a defending player in possession is tackled in the in-goal area.

(e) a defending player kicks the ball into touch on the full from his own in-goal.

(f) a defending player kicks or passes the ball in his own in-goal and the ball accidentally strikes an opponent and goes into touch in-goal or over the dead ball line.

(g) the ball or a defending player carrying the ball touches the referee, a touch judge or an encroaching spectator in the in-goal area and play is thereby irregularly affected.

(h) the ball goes over the dead ball line or into touch in-goal other than on the full from a kick off from the centre of the halfway line .

(i) where a kick is made dead by a defending player straddling the dead ball line or touch in goal line.

So a drop out is the correct decision

Except a 20m restart would never have been the decision, it should have been a penalty on half way as it always has been. As was said before, that wasn't the rule that was changed.

No - you are right it shouldn't ever be a 20 metre restart as the ball didn't bounce- which was what code13 mentioned which was why I posted that bit.
But According to rule 4i i also posted it should have been a drop out from the sticks?

The new rule is a bit confusing, (especially the “is stationary” part), but it basically means that a player touching the ball before the ball has hit the ground means that it is the player who has caused it to go dead – ie. it’s the player’s fault. A goal-line drop-out was correct.

The stationary part is where a ball has been kicked and stops in goal. Instead of picking it up if the player straddled the line and batted it back he got a 20 metre restart instead of having to run it back in.

Shameful, gutless performance by Wakefield with only a couple of players showing any desire to win. We'd have struggled to beat an amateur team last night, and I wouldn't have been confident about that!

Good luck for the rest of the play offs.

As well as we played last night, it was easy, I do not mean that as a slight to Wakefield but we are a good not great team and last night we had no pressure at all. Safe in the league with no real prospect of overhauling all of Wakefield, Salford and Saints so highly unlikely to make top 4. Wakey on the other hand went into the game with real pressure following Saints excellent win on Thursday.
Wakey did what we have done a good few times over the last few years, pushed things a bit too hard, tried to score every set and made loads of mistakes in the face of our defensive pressure.
An enjoyable win for us, a bit of a disappointing end to the season seems to be unfolding for Wakey whom have the best side I can remember them having for at least ten years. I would rather see them progress than Saints or Salford, I hope they can regroup.
