Might have come through Giants academy but Connor and Leeming are from Halifax and Johnson from Oldham.

Now about your lack of support bearing in mind ken davey virtually gives you a season pass and a lot of your players came through your system, which you say is what is wanted, why the lack of support for a reasonably successful side ?
first of all, we don't have season passes, we have season tickets like the rest of the country, and £235 is hardly "giving them away" or are you still in 2009 when they were £99?
out of the players you have mentioned- the first 5 might be british, but they were developed by other clubs, rovers signed them when they were established first team players..the others you mentioned ( horne and cox apart) have hardly been regulars, although green did play quite a lot this year, and how many of those will get a chance next year with all the new signings?
point was, that despite being in super league for 8 years now, you haven't produced very many players in that time, compared to most other SL clubs.

| it's irrelevant where a player comes from IMO
out of our current squad, i would say the ones we have developed ( ones who have gone on to play in super league)
lawrence
cudjoe
crabtree
mcgilvary
lunt
patrick
fairbank
connor
leeming
johnson
miller
aspinall
some would say wardle too as he has developed into a class act, although he could have made it at bradford
i would say that 12 of our squad from 2014 have been developed by us.

Bang on with this post, they haven't produced no outstanding players.

| It doesn't matter what town players are from. For me a homegrown player is somebody who signed at the club at 16 or under irrelevant of what town they come from.
The reality is that their amateur clubs bring them on and then at 16 they go up several levels when signed on scholarship. I wouldn't class Wardle, lunt or Patrick as ours because they have come through a different youth system. A bit like the Hornes and Hodgson at Hull KR.
My last response was to a couple of posters not just the techy fella who classes lunt as a HKR player!

| The above is a post from a defeated man. Pulling people's grammer up is a sure sign of somebody with no come back. Go and bore you're own posters.
You've signed a few 2nd rate players and you think you're world beaters!
Come back when you've won something! Or even made the play-offs.

| Quote: Aboveusonlypie "Genuine question this - What's the big deal about signing or producing British players?
I mean at Wigan we produce more than most, but it doesn't give you any extra points when the game kicks off.
I never understand this attitude that signing local lads is best. I just like to see good players play for Wigan, and I don't really mind where they come from.
When Blake Green goes back to Aussie next year we will replace him with a Wigan trainee. All very laudable. But most Wigan fans would rather see a like for like replacement.'"
Why produce your own players?
I expect that it’s cheaper and easier to stay under the salary cap if you can bring your own through. Buying ready made first teamers is more costly as they’ll want higher salaries. A young lad coming through can be on an incentivised contract.
Also players that have come through the system ought to identify with the club more and show a bit more loyalty. You can’t buy that.
Obviously some clubs find it easier to produce quality young players than others. It depends on a lot of factors. If the club is successful then more kids will want to join. If the club pays well that also runs in their favour. Having a quality set up pays off too as does a clear pathway to the 1st team. It’s no coincidence that the more of these factors you have the better you’ll do.
A lot also depends on the number of amateur RL clubs nearby and the popularity of the sport. In places where the game is a lower profile the harder it will be to produce home grown players.
Even if you do produce decent British players there’s no guarantee you’ll hang onto them. There’s always a richer and/or more successful club around that can tempt a young lad, it’s a short career. Look at how many of our ex youngsters are at Huddersfield, Catalans, Wigan, South Sydney etc.

| on the subject of bringing on young players are we deluding ourselves , how many games did ,Johnson ,leeming ,conner play last season ?it seemed to me they were thrown in when we were short , rather than as part of a development programme . would not be surprised if their jloint total was less than a dozen

if they are good enough they will become regulars like cudjoe, lawrence, crabtree, wardle, mcgillvary.
id say connor will become a regular if he continues his progress.

| Rumours generally in rl have some part truth, nowt ever really happens signing wise without people already having some inclination. However things can be taken out of context interest soon becomes a four year deal. Rumours can be fun and give us something to talk about but until clubs come out with facts then they are just that rumours and speculation.
