| I have been to plenty of football grounds and never seen "stewarding" as aggressive and intimidating as it was at warrington last night.
I appreciate they use a security firm ( MYL or something ) but they are still, to my knowledge employed to do a job a regular steward could easily do.

| Its unusual for any sports ground not to employ a "security" element of some kind. These may be called security/response teams/ or even...and hence where the confusion often arises...stewards. Sometimes (like at Warrington) these are outsiders brought in, in addition to the normal stewards. Sometime the clubs actually outsource the full stewarding to outside contractors, who will then provide "normal stewards" and SIA stewards.
The security element is required as they DO carry out duties (by reason of their SIA accrediation) that normal stewards do not, and are not trained to, carry out. Do you guys not also still use CES security firm in addition to your own stewards at the JohnSmith ? I think Salford use G4S.
BUT..regardless of who is used, how they are used or whether they are club or company, anybody who has an issue with stewarding at any club should contact the relevant club and voice their opinions. In the past Warrington have come out and made public statements about their stewarding and the result of them following up fans complaints.

Unbelievable and this is suppose to be a family sport, so the club employ bouncers, and that's why we see stewards, sorry bouncers charging in grabbing people by the collar, push children and women about and all because they made the wrong call and assaulted someone who turned out to be innocent, wow, great advert for your club and Rugby League, a sport that markets itself as family safe/friendly!

Its not unusual. For searches and licenced areas (bars etc) all clubs will need SIA trained staff. The costs of training their own staff for a limited number of occasions per year means that most sporting venues would subcontract that work out (again...does the JS still use CES?). The people who are used to work sporting events will be used by the same companies to work doors in town centre pubs and clubs the rest of the time. If they couldnt it would not be worth the individual paying for their own licence (as even these security companies take them on on a "casual" basis)
In short any sporting venue, whether it be football, rugby league, union, cycling, cricket etc will be using at some point people who work as bouncers at other times.
That being said..........................that does not detract from the behaviour which should be expected from these people. The accusation often leveled at the company used by Warrington is that sometimes the "bouncers" cannot switch from nightclub mode to rugby game mode. Poor behaviour reflects on the club and its own employees and that is why the club DOES act where necessary. And that is why fans should contact the club with their complaints. I have even done it myself about the stewarding at Wembley during the 2010 CC final. OK, I may have got a "brush-off" letter back BUT at least i can honestly state I did what I could.

ALL WIGAN SUPPORTERS MUST
1. Wigan must not win a hard fought struggle in appalling conditions, nilling the opposition and scoring 16 points, because that makes for the worst CC Final of all time.
2. Wigan must not get to the final by nilling the opposition and scoring 70 points with a display of attacking rugby because that makes for the worst CC Semi Final of all time.
3. Wigan players must not consider winning the game but devote all their efforts to entertaining neutral fans. Just like all the other teams do...
4. Wigan fans must not mention winning the CC Final, as that is arrogant.
5. Wigan fans must not mention winning the Challenge Cup 19 times, or indeed any other Trophies, as that is very arrogant indeed.
6. Wigan fans must not attend actual games. It is now compulsory to stay at home, watch on TV and moan about how low attendances at games are.: |

| Quote: mikej "They do. The "stewards" who are often the ones criticised in public are not stewards, they are security (they wear the orange jackets). Warrington directly employ its own stewards (usually the ones wearing yellow vests/jackets...but not the Showsec ones) to help spectators, sort out problems, interact with fans, deal with list kids, check on people who might need first aid etc . Go around Warrington at a weekend and you will often see these people out shopping etc because they are from the town and many are Warrington fans. The "stewards" who get slagged are actually "bouncers" employed from out of town and are there so that the club has "enforcement" to meet the requirements of its licence. The alternative would be to pay for policing and then they would be accused of turning it into a football (soccer) ground.'"
I know what your saying. However, If Warrington pay a company to send 20 people(I just made that figure up but bare with me) to act as bouncers/stewards. Surely it would be cheaper for warrington to hire the 20 people instead of paying for the firm? As the company would need to pay the wages and also a bit for themselves as well.

| Not if they pay them a wage instead of by the day. I have no problem with wire contracting out whichever services they wish. But the firm they are using are a joke and are giving the club a reputation for dealing with the fans badly.

| The security guy was SIA accredited as he wouldn't have been allowed in the stadium to work as he was from an outside security firm I saw his badge as I would've questioned this had he not had it.
As for the Ecigs they are banned from 98% of stadia in this country including our own stadium just there isn't signage concerning this. Yes it was a little over zealous by the stewards and I did have a word with the guy in particular and his hump was that the lad with the ecig had been warned 3 times and told these were not allowed to be used in the stadium but was sworn at alledgedly and that was why he was going to eject him.
As for the alcopop even we have concerns over these as the catering company never tell us the products on sale so when seen at first we do have to check to make sure.

Wouldn't Wire be liable for any 'transgressions' in that case? I wouldn't like to be accountable for some knuckle-dragging, 'roid fiend not being able to keep his rage under control. Mind you do they ever get prosecuted? I know 2 people who were killed by Bouncers in Bradford and the only conviction between them was for assault and warranted 100 hours 'Community Service' (How ironic!) apparently.

The game was played on Thursday night. the club would need chance to gather all available information (from stewards,CCTV,fans etc). That information would then have to be assessed. There has been a weekend where the club has had to organise GF ticket collections. There is not a cat-in-hells chance she would have heard anything yet. Do these kind of events get looked into.......Yes. After a game against Hull last season, the club actually decided that the events/complaints warranted a full public statement.
