Yeah but Ellery is boring cos he says nowt controversial.

We should not have got rid of TS,but he couldn't wait to go,we were not a big enough deal for him back then.

He has had success as a coach, one who can put up a winning game plan against any opposition in the SL,this he has proved.

But the GB tour to Aus with him coaching was totally embarrassing, not to mention his post game interviews.

Don't think I totally forgave him for the way he walked out on us.

Meaningless friendly but did any of the kids catch the eye, and did we pick up yet more injuries?

Actually quite impressed and encouraging performance for first hit out. Cas without Rangi will struggle but Orr partners him well when on field. We defo missed Brown/Brough combo. Of new guys Chan/Eden impressed as did George and all seemed to do quite well - Lee also - and of the regulars Jerry and Eorl stood out for me - and lads making the step up did well Molloy/Walker/Sarsfield/Fairbank all did OK.

Some soft tries conceded and would have liked to have seen a bit more in defence especially speed off PTB when not in possession. Game very close until last quarter and really enjoyed it - good standard and application for a friendly.

HUDDERSFIELD - THE BIRTHPLACE OF RUGBY LEAGUE:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_43854.jpg

32-22 twice came back from 10-0 down to hit the front but our defence was very poor tonight

stand out players were mcgillvary (as usual), brough (good try and kicks), crabtree (alot of work), robinson (couple of breaks), chan (couple of barnstorming runs), fairbank and walker did well too..

eden started and played alot of minutes at full back did ok, grix made a few mistakes, lunt didnt do much, sarsfield..cording poor

good workout for both teams

wigan next....lets improve the defence

Strange game, typical preseason friendly.

Walker looked good as did Eden and Luke George (though not really a youngster)

Fairbank also looked decent, Josh Johnson was ok but ain't ready yet imo.

Sarsfield & Cording struggled a bit and Malloy didn't seem to get much time.

Of other players Grix missed a couple of tackles, Chan looks a monster size of backrower but was playing pretty much within himself, Jerry, Leroy, Danny Brough & Robbo all looked good. As for Tommy Lee I think I'll give him another chance, tonight he was involved a lot but seemed markedly slower than Lunt/Robbo/Brough.

Worryingly we conceded loads of penalties.

Cas kept on Chase & Orr for 70 mins whereas Giants chopped and changed, some encouraging moments and some harsh lessons for a couple of the lads.

Cheers for the feedback guys, did Eden start at FB,was Grix in the halves.Walker? was that Adam or this new lad Freddie?

Assume it was Robbo & T Lee at hooker.Where did that leave Shaun Lunt.

Just pre-season but if you are mentioning slow line speed it sounds like a repeat of the end of last year.

I'm off to Wigan on Thursday anyroad, can't wait.

Adam Walker, looked a decent Prop, strong defended well and good hard running, couple of late passes to a la James Graham. I am much less worried about the props after tonight.
Lunt played most of the game in back row but had a couple of short spells at hooker.
Robbo played hooker and scrum half.
Grix started at stand off, Eden at FB.

Didn't think the soft tries were line speed, there was a couple of poorly missed tackles (Gillie & Grix) and I think it was clark the cas hooker exploited Sarsfield's ruck defence a couple of times near the end (when we had a tiny and very young pack on). Eden somehow let Danny Orr beat him to a chip over. All poor tries but more about not being sharp rather than poor effort.

Cheers 'Dee.

Got told this week that it was definite that there were gonna be positional changes this year, and it looks like tonight has confirmed it to some extent.

Adam Walker, glad to hear he had a decent game.We need this lad to come through at prop.

I thought that this was a decent game and definately above average for pre season. I'm a Cas supporter but one thing that struck me is that your players do look in good physical order. The size of the players is good and even the younger lads look physically ready to step up.

Vital to test out combinations of players and levels of fitness

really i could have sworn danny orr came off 10 minutes before the break and only had 10 minutes in the second half with adam milner playing at 7 for the time orr was off and brough didnt come off until the 70 minute mark tbh without his kicking game i think we would have won far easier.

another concern lastnight was the penalties we gave away when we had cas camped in there half, then letting them off the hook and piggy backing them up the field to score eusa_naughty.gif
