I also thought there was another decision were to me it appeared Jerry caught the ball cleanly behind the line but we were forced to drop out. I don't think Bentham was too bad yesterday on the whole.
I actually think Lawrence is doing ok in the second row and will get even better with more game time.'"
i couldnt see where he took the ball but i thought jerry looked to have been tackled in the air - it was a long way from where i was stood though. I agree about lawrence - hes doing good and will improve his try was a fantastic effort as was leroys. If they all put in that little extra effort......

| Firstly some of the posters onhere ned to get a grip.
There was no lack of effort from any of our players out bthere yesterday.
From 1 to 17 they all worked hard. Defensively however Cas worked harder. They were helped by Bentham who did not penalise offside and Cas reacted to that better.
They came out of their line where apart from a few indaviduals we did not.
Some of our goal line defence was poor ( the first and third tries i think). Despite that Cas only seemed to get a few good breaks.
Our Ruck defence was poor and they made too many easy yards from Dummy Half, however when Wood came on we made a lot of good breaks.
There were also 4 key decisons that went against us.
Broughs 40 - 20 was not given and they scored from the next set of 6.
Faiumu penalised for the offload when he was being pushed backwards. If held had been called it should have been our penalty.
The penalty they got on their line after they defused the bomb, i have no idea why that was given.
Jerry having to kick out after taking a catch in the in goal.
4 decisions which on another day could have gone our way and changed the course of the game.
It is clear the players are lacking confidence and we need a leader to rally the troops when things go bad.
We need a good start against HKR to give the players some confidence back

| got to agree with both durham and stella all your points are well put and valid, i personally saw enough in the last hour of the game to suggest we are gradually returning to some sort of form, as i said before cas match wood needs to start at 7 on sat and brough at 6, we looked far better when these 2, fuey and robbo were on the pitch at the same time, season not gone for me yet.

So after saying the players worked hard you then went on to explain where they didn't work hard.
They did not work as hard as they have shown they are able- they were a shadow of the team that beat e.g wire, saints, Leeds, in those games they worked a lot harder.
Don't get me wrong I don't think they are being lazy I just think they lack fire
in their bellies at the moment. Yet again nerves have got the better of them I think as we get to the crunch part of the season.

| Agree with Jools...there's definitely something of the rabbit in the headlights syndrome about the players at the moment.

| it might just be a confidence thing, give a player the ball who is happy and confident he will do what comes naturally and usually succeed, give it to a player who isnt sure about himself and by the time he has thought about his options he is tackled and going nowhere.. how to regain the confidence is the one question that nobody has the answer to

| How did Broughy cope with the big game? I said in March last year on your board that " bear in mind that I've seen him in two big games (once for Cas against us, and once for us in the semi against Hull) and neither time did he rise to the occasion - quite the opposite, he choked."
If he can sort that out he will be a great player instead of just a very good player (who I'd have back at BV in a heartbeat!)

Unfortunately he was playing behind a beaten pack who were out-muscled and bullied unfortunately. ATEOTD it is a team sport and the team needs to work to win, and on Sunday we fell short of that - not by a country mile, but definitely short. Broughy's effort on Saturday to get the team down the other end of the pitch was spot on for me, some brilliant kicking and he made some good tackles in defence (an area I always considered his weak point, however he has done enough this year to prove me wrong).
He played in a pretty big game for us against Wire last year in the play off's and got MotM. Nuff said.

Can't say I ever thought defence was a problem, he always pulled his weight there. Its just every now and then you feel that something just isn't clicking with him, whether its temperament, confidence, composure, attitude or just trying too hard - I'm not sure which - but more often than not its in a key game. Compare that with someone like Briers, who seems to be able to raise his game a notch in similar situations.
Am I being too harsh on him, is he allowed an off day like everyone else?

I know where your coming from to be honest, I think he has worked very hard in pre-season to get some consistency. That is what I feel NB has added to his game, as such I don't think he has had a bad performance this year. I'm sure someone will correct me though
