| Was definitely a better style of play on offer and lawrence looked like he actually wanted to break the line instead of the usual drop to the floor on impact that he normally plays. My big worry is that Thorman will take over, and things will be back to normal once the new coach effect has worn off. There was certainly effort in abundance today, but is Thorman the kind of coach that can make them play that way against say salford or Hull KR after a decent win when in the past we have turned up in half d mode? Will he have the presence to drop established stars if they turn in a poor performance?

| Great performance and effort by the lads, cant ask for any more that that. Offloads, strong carries, throwing the ball out wide. A bit of pace with Simpson and Darnell, what we have missed.
Honestly thought wed done it, but we are never going to win a game by a drop goal though, are we? We need to start practising these I think.
Good debut by both academy lads but Ill be shocked if we see them play Monday, its a big ask asking them to play 2 senior games in 4 days. Senior may have to play though depending on who is available. Mellor coming in at centre with Murphy on the wing just spells disaster to me. Never want to see Murphy on the wing ever again. Much better at centre, Although, hell never be the type to break or put his winger in but his strengths are better suited there.
When Mamo is fit, he should play on the wing for me and stick with Darnell at Full Back for a while now.
Any players available for Monday? Leeming, Ferguson, Mellor?
We didnt miss Gaskell at all for me - really dont rate him at all and should be very hard for him to get back in the side.

Agree re Darnell. They threw the kitchen sink at him and he soaked up all the pressure, didn’t let it get to him after Walker the wonder boy had flunked it. Took some fantastic high balls.
Mamo can get back on the plane for me.

Agreed Jools. He should be put on the left wing when hes back for me and see how he goes there, he used to play on the left wing for Newcastle and I think he would be best suited there. Id like him to be gone at end of the season, though.
If we can get Symonds, Wakeman and Mamo off our wage bill we could look to bring in some decent players next season.

| an interesting post match listen...
rlhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p062vk3trl
thorman and mcdermott both wondering why its takes someone to get sacked to get a reaction!
must have needed to hairdryer to spike them up... to be fair stone was a little laid back on this score
hope the reaction doesnt wear off tooo quick and caution on the youngsters as they cant always back up week after week

| I feel everyone is just so relieved to be shot of Stone. I hate the nice guy tag. Agree with Jools there's some money takers on the wage bill, symonds and wakeman definitely. I'm out on mamo, he's one that needs to step up or step off now.

| Didn't get to the match today, best i managed was some of it on the Radio but it sounded like a great match with the Giants playing some decent football which just shows it can be done whoever the 17 are.
Don't think this will have clinched the job for Thorman but it certainly won't have done him any harm and if they have asked for applicants he has the chance to show it's not a flash in the pan before any decisions are made.
Big game on Monday now, classic Giants tactic is to play really well against one of the big teams and then not turn up for one of the strugglers. Hopefully Thorman and the team can pull another out of the hat.

| Now they've put Thorman in charge, I'd like the club to keep him there till the end of the season. That way there'll be no rash choices like the one which brought Rick Stone to our doorstep. This isn't just because of last night's performance but to give a bit of stability to the situation we're in. If we can produce the same performance, as last night, for the next few games then Chris could be considered for the job therefore saving money on bringing in a replacement who may not be able to turn things round anyway. If things don't work out by the end of this season then have someone's name ready to take over before the next preseason and regroup.

hard one because contract and signings will need to be done this season, think transfer deadline day is in may... so if a new coach comes in early he can start to assemble his squad, comes in late and hes handed a team that wasnt his like stone who had a hard job but did well in the circumstances.
the job this season is to get us in the top 8 thats it. club still rebuilding ..again!

| Absolutely not. I mean one draw with a new coach and everything is fine.
There is nothing else wrong at the club. We just needed a cleave to shout at the players and tell Brough to let others play that is all that was needed.
Summer is all about one swallow.

Iv'e never understood this business about coaches who haven't got their own team, or they have inherited players they didn't sign.
If a coach takes on a job , he takes it on and if he's done his homework he will have researched the club and know what is what. That said, Having taken the job it's his job to get the best out of the players available until he is able to strengthen somewhat, If he is a good coach the team should progress even if slowly, If he is a very good coach the players will improve hugely, and if he is a great coach the team will be in contention for what's available. and that has been and is being done at other clubs.
Where the Giants have been unlucky is with injuries, if it is all down to bad luck, whatever it's been going on for three years now and that seems to be a long time for a streak of bad luck to last.
The bottom line is that Rick didn't do what he came to do for whatever reason and so he had to go, That's what happens in Rugby league clubs,
He's had less time than many of his predecessors but that has been a costly policy in the past on occasions. I'm hoping that the end of Rick is far from the end of the changes but i feel that is a forlorn hope.

| Feel we have to give Thorman some credit for that improved performance. Seems he has told players some home truths and had the strength of character to add 4 younger players to the 17 - 2 of which were debuts. Don't buy in to the view that an improved performance was inevitable at all. Chris has stood up to media scrutiny well and seems to have respect from the squad.
Hope he gets a chance - see how he goes for a few games before we rush any decision. If he does well then maybe bring in a Head of Rugby to mentor him.
Great to see the 4 young lads perform so well.
