We can judge that from one game ??
Good job the big clubs don't have that attitude with their young players !!
Maybe if we had actually given him some Super League game time we would have had an idea how good is he, but as usual he will leave our club without actually having had a chance !!

We have given him game time Daz- I've seen him play lots of times- and I said earlier this year I didn't think he had what it takes. A good kicking game but otherwise a solid average player in the 19s. Should we have him sitting in the stands paying him a wage in the off chance he suddenly blossoms- as he will be too old for 19s next year?
Perhaps he's decided he doesn't want to be paid a pittance to sit in the stands next year and wants to pursue an alternative career.

| But how has playing essentially amateur/park rugby led us to see what he can offer at SL level, did we give up on Bruno, Eorl, Jerry, Leroy etc after 1 game ? no we gave them a chance to blossom and improve by playing a higher level.
I agree what your saying but i just dont think we give our youngster enough time - instead of one or 2 games when theyre 18/19 and then getting rid because their too old for the '19's, why dont we start giving these guys 1st team chances in cup games or certain SL games and giving them some SL experience rather than expecting them to become great players playing at YMCA against other team's not good enough kids ?

| every body develops at different speeds we shouldn't be writing off any one at 19
with the big increase in the sky money the game should bring back the under 21 or even a under 24

You can tell daz- likes of Dickinson, Leeming and Connor stand out a mile in the 19s- there's a couple of other you get players who look like they can be a cut above also. If they aren't standing out at 19s they aren't going to suddenly go great guns at a higher level!
I agree players may develop later- but we can't afford wages for all our players too old for the 19s who "might" come good!

| So why haven't those 3 who do stand out been given a chance yet then ? a proper chance not 1 or 2 games when there's injuries ? other clubs have 18,19 year olds as regulars in their squads all the time.

Spot on again Daz. we'd rather bring players like Ellis in from Cas rather than give our young un's a go. We rather they go to Warrington ala Toby King who's getting some SL gametime at 18yr old? Couple years.down the line we'll be shipping Ellis off to Fev or Batley!!!

| Flying - your example is a poor one- Toby king has had one game against London- he's hardly been playing every week! And daz two of those three probably would have been given a proper chance this season but have only just come back from injury!
Tyler is only 17- not many 17yr old prop forwards playing every week in SL are there!!!!! It's easier to stick youngsters on the wing than put them in at prop or in a technical position. I don't think as a club we are doing much different to others. And it doesn't appear we are making mistakes. Not many of our youngsters that your whinging don't get a chance even go on to play championship RL let alone play for another SL team. It's difficult for us as a club to get the most promising youngsters in the first place with other clubs often getting first pick. Wigan is already sniffing round our promising scholarship half back

i agree jools, you can tell when you go and watch the under 19's the ones who could possible make it in SL
mcgillvary stood out a mile, as did greg johnson who is now going well at salford.
josh johnson shows up well.
connor stands out and has slotted in well in SL.
one who i felt was going to make it was elliot hodgson but he didnt for whatever reason... think he's now setup his own business as a plumber!
we have alot more talent in the under 19's now than we did say 5 years ago, the club put alot of money into it but we have to be patient, if they are good enough then they will come through like mcgillvary, lawrence, johnson, cudjoe, wardle etc

King has kept his place tonight, question is would Connor had Grixy been fit? Think we all know the answer to that one. I could count on 1 hand the players that have come thru our Academy and gone onto play SL and become a regular 1st teamer with us. Its probably nearer the 50's for the likes of Wigan, Leeds, Saints and Wire.

King has kept his place-Ryan could still be injured. Either way wire don't chuck them in every week either! Not sure where you've got 50 from!!
You could count on one hand players who have come through our academy and played first team (are you from cas?) how many of those fingers could you count players who we have let go and made it.
Would you be happy if we dropped brough, robbo, Eorl and leroy just to let a few of our youngsters get a go? I'm sure you would be berating baloo for dropping better players for inexperienced youngsters.
Get real! Our academy isn't the best- we are up against a LOT of competition (interestingly often from warrington!) to sign the best players-but until our facilities improve and we get the bums on seats to provide funds we are doing the best we can.
Instead of moaning folk should get to to the YMCA and watch the young ones - if nothing else it will be helping to fund them.

Would be delighted if Baloo dropped some of our regulars, based on current form the youngsters would be 100 times better and would guarentee the effort required. People base too much on names and see Leeming on team sheet instead of Lunt or Connor instead of Grix and fear the worse cos it isnt a recognised name (incorrectly).
Names and reputations count for jack @. King didnt play tonight you are correct, I'll use another example Williams the teenager at Wigan played regular this season, scored a hattrick tonight playing stand off. Joe Burgess at Wigan could be classed as 1st team regular now.
I go to the YMCA to watch the youngsters, I recommended a lad I used to coach to the club, a 15 year old 6' 3" no-one followed it up. I saw him at Magic Weekend last year and he said he'd got offers from Wigan, Bradford, Cas & Wakey but the Giants hadn't been to see him. I asked him to not rush signing owt and I got in touch with a contact at the club, that Weekend they went to watch him and I got a call from Pete Riding to say how good he was. They offered him a scholarship. He now plays in u16's another we nearly lost till I bollocked the club and forced em to follow up my original reccomendation well before other clubs got involved.
Its half d and needs sorting we cant afford to buy big as you rightly say, we dont have the money, thats why its vital we bring our own thru.
Rather than sign stop gap players such as Ellis, I'd rather see Miller and the other youngsters get a proper chance!!!!
