Saw him play for Rochdale against Crusaders yesterday and scored a breakaway try but apart from that did not look particularly special though was playing at centre and probably did not want to be there but he seems to be this years Foster for Saints and he's done alright for himself since moving on.

A SL loan move might re-ignite his career but do we really need to upset the apple cart at present with things going well as do not feel Robbo has done much wrong so far to face being dropped let alone having someone moved in to replace him.

Not sure about that one...looked a great prospect a couple of years ago but doesn't seeemed to have kicked on much since but that could just be from what i've seen.

Maybe a loan spell to see what he can do and judge him on that but at the moment i dont think he will offer us anymore than what Robbo does at 7. then again most of us said the same about signing Danny Brough icon_wink.gif

To be fair a player like Gaskell playing against a Champ 1 side should be really shining but he seemed more content with arguing with the referee and the fact Rochdale never looked like scoring in the 2nd half whilst obviously not his fault you do wonder if a player like that can not galvanise himself and his team mates at that level is he really good enough for the top teams in SL. NB seems to think not and perhaps he is the sort of player Salford should be going for to give him that second chance as dual registration is not really the best route back for him IMHO and having seen Crusaders who have had nothing to do with that system take apart two teams with a smattering of St Helens and Hull KR youngsters this season I think it is a system that is doomed to failure and the top teams in the Championship not taking part in it and still pulling clear of the rest suggests it is not doing anyone any good in reality.

maybe the giants are still interested ...maybe they are not... maybe nathan brown still has plans for him!

anyhow dont want to upset the apple cart right now with the way things are but dont think robinson is exactly setting the world alight in this position this season..doing 'ok'.

You could say the same about Lunt when he was dropped to the reserves- he didn't shine then!
Looks like NB will probably play Gaskell now anyway with roby injured hohaia will probably go to 9 and Gaskell in the halves.

Who is currently playing first choice hooker for the cowboys in the NRL.......

Robbo is doing a lot of runaround work with Broughy behind the pack and putting some lovely passes out to the centres. He is doing great and will only get better. I am well satisfied with things as they are.

People dont see the little things some players do that make all the difference, like Robbo's runarounds and linking play

Like Grix joining the line and passing on to Wardle on Saturday for his break leading to his try. That was top drawer but almost unnoticed

Yes robbo is linking really well-and I've no doubt the pair will improve through the season, but I still think hooker plays to his strengths better. Quick pinpoint passing off the floor- and those darting runs of his out of acting half are a joy to see. However he took some real stick physically in the middle and will probably get a couple more years by playing in the halves.

Just think grix, brough, robbo, faiumu, Lunt AND Gaskell would offer some real attacking prowess and enable our kicking game to be a bit more unexpected rather than nearly always going to brough.

Am I just being greedy?

I'd also rather not bring a new playmaker in mid season unless its to cover an injury <cough>Moore<cough>

If you are bringing a player in to strengthen the squad they need to be in now so they are ready to step in. Particularly with a half who would need time to settle in and get up to speed with the plays etc.

Having Gaskell now gives us real options in the halves and at hooker.

If Robbo or Brough gets injured who do we have who can step in . Grix does not want to play there ( not in defence anyway). Leroy is not really a half, who is there ?.

I genuinely think that this season may be a real chance for silverware and possibly the last before the other teams start rebuilding.

Wigan are young an inexperienced and a little light in the forwards particularly with injuries.

Leeds are an ageing team who still have some weaknesses.

Saints have terrible injury problems

Hull have problems in the halves.

( we have already beaten the teams above).

Wire are not the same without Briers.

Salford have not bought SBW yet

With a bit of luck and an extra addition such as Gaskell we have a real; chance of a final or silverware.

Having Gaskell means that Robbo could do some time at Hooker to rest Lunt. It gives us another option at SO with Brough moving to SH or having a rest. It allows to make some changes so players are available fresh at the end of the year.

For me Gaskell could be the last piece of the jigsaw and or the last throw of the dice to get us a trophy this year before we start having to sell players.

That is true hence why I suggested he might be suited to a move to someone like Salford as he probably thinks he is too good for Champ 1 and his frustration did boil over a couple of times with a bit of referee baiting including giving a penalty away for dissent.

If he takes his chance good for him but he could well be at last chance saloon for Saints and perhaps like Moore he will move on and seem a different player or do a Lunt and make himself invaluble to the team.
