I didnt want to make a judgement on him unitl i know any facts about his role, it seemed he finished playing at Leigh last season and walked into a job this season? Is that correct?
Is he having any impact in his role?
Im not a massive fan of ex-players walking into roles with clubs straight away especially during a recession.
Thoughts?'"
Didn't just walk into anything. After 3 years playing for the Giants he kept in close contact with the club - he was doing his sport marketing degree with Univ of Huddersfield (the giants main partner). he would speak at pre match events if they did not clash with playing for leigh / headed up the trip for our 2009 Cup final etc etc. Much of that would be unpaid or nominal fees.
Since being at the club he has helped elevate our tv profile + am told he has brought in some sponsors + driven our palyers in the community/schools to a much higher level + offered advice to players etc. He has done online surveys + actively sought to increase our activity on twitter / facebook etc.
A positive appointment.

Glad to read that if there have been positive outcomes, from an objective point of view were there no marketing graduates at the University of Huddersfield who were looking for a job before Robbie finished playing that could of done this?

| Out of two people with marketing degrees who would you employ as a Rugby League club wanting to raise it's profile?
Someone straight out of Uni or someone with Mr Hunter-Paul's background?

Exactly who's got the better CV for a role like that
I think he's doing an excellent job, and certainly is raising the profile of the game in Huddersfield, crikey we even have pies fans asking umpteen questions about him (subjectively !)

| I would be happier if, as an employee of and advocate for the Giants, he would use the word 'we' when referring to the Giants in interviews - he always refers to us in the third person 'they are doing this' or 'the Giants are doing that' - as if he is distancing himself somehow..

| Fifi I was going to say exactly the same. The Super League show is a great example of this. He is doing a great job though.

| maybe the media people have instructed him to remain neutral while he's on TV rather than plug his employers.

| If he is achieving results for the Giants and RL then i think thats great but what worries me are ex-players suddenly walking into a role, especially when we are in a recession. Doesnt have to be a graduate taking this job may be somebody who is already experienced in marketing and business.

Robbiedidnotwalk into the job though, he combined playing with studying to gain a specific sports marketing degree. His qualifications match any other potential candidates and his profile must surely surpass other candidates.
Not sure what your issue is here, he is qualified for the job and the first few months suggest he is very capable in the role.
A former player trains for a life beyond playing and successfully takes up a role with a former club, that seems like a positive to me, why do you see that as a negative? Very strange perspective imo

I couldn't disagree more. I think it's great that we have given a player who risked serious injury every time he took to the field an opportunity to continue to contribute to a sport and a club that he quite clearly has great passion for. As well as giving him the opportunity while playing for us to develop his personal skills for a life outside of playing. As opposed to discarding him like an old sock so he can become a sad, mentally ill, drunkard like some sports do.

| Robbie's predecessor went into a job with the RFL and it was advertised, so I fail to see how he walked into this role. He applied just as many others probably did but he had the credentials other graduates or applicants didn't.

| Think the OP seems to have got confused about RHP's role here - its not just a role or a title that we have given to an ex-player, it is a position that became vacan that was advertised, Robbie had just finished his playing career and applied for the job as he had the relevant credentials for it and saw it as an opportunity for him to make use of his degree and knowledge of the club and the game in general.........i think it is a hugely positive thing for him , the Giants and Rugby League in general to have someone like Robbie around.
Not sure whether its a personal issue or not with the OP but he seems to be trying to have a dig somewhere !!.

| I was chatting to Marcus st hilaire recently -asking him what he was up to-he was actually quite bitter about the fact that he (and he said paul reilly) had applied for a couple of jobs recently at the giants but had not been given them. It doesn't appear that the club appoint ex players purely on the basis they are ex players.
Robbie Paul has one of the highest profiles in the game with tonnes of contracts what better way to raise the profile of the club-which is what his job is about. The fact that we are bringing in more supporters than ever -and especially our away following increase suggests he's doing something right!
