| As far as i know the club haven't said anything, only Jerry in last weeks league express said he was undecided about his future, i guess until the club/and/or Jerry say anything different then he will be with us for next season and hopefully beyond!

Yet their brave bid came to a stunning end when Cudjoe stepped out of the defensive line to intercept a pass and then run away for a 90-metre effort. (Times 2)

| When we were leaving after the match Gerry was being interviewed by some geezer from Radio Leeds, perhaps we will find out more in due course.
Any old hoo, I can't see him being happy to have to shell out the dosh buying petrol every week to travel to work over on the dark side.

| Quote: bilko1941 "Hasn't he twelve months to go on his present contract? If so isn't it a little premature?'"
Yes it is and there are far greater needs than worrying about whether Mcgillvrey will still be here after his contract runs out.
He is a good player and he is one of the few who have been steadily improving, But some people need to get things in perspective, A big percentage of his try's come from kicks, ( yes he comes up with an individual stunner now and then ) He often gains us very good field position, and he finishes well, but that what he is, he's a finisher.
What we need to be thinking about is a Starter, or more precisely a creator, Have people not noticed what a limited attacking side we are, We have one creative player, and if he doesn't fire , we don't fire for the most part.
Doesn't anyone care about getting a decent half to take the line on and take some of the onus away from Brough. People are starting to sweat over Mcgillvrey and he still has 12 months on his contract, and yet they have been putting up for years with mediocre and past their best players in the very positions that the whole attacking strategy should start.
I know Ellis was brought in and he does his best I'm sure but he doesn't have that spark and pace off the mark to get us where we want to be. In fact he would be a far better LF, It's time we had one who can handle a ball a bit and has some sort of kicking game, Bailey is due to go, and for me he has never hit the heights I was expecting.
In the so called vital positions for next year , we have sorted the Hooking role, and hopefully Leeming will learn massively from him, We have Brough, through which everything goes, We desperately need another half, and another fullback when Grix's contract expires, ( Simpson needs a year or two yet to learn his trade and get a bit of weight on )
So why the mad panic to get McGillvrey signed up , There are positions far more pressing than Wing.

| All well and good but Jerry is a class act and even in 12 months will take some replacing as a winger of his quality will be hard to find !!

Wingers are a damn sight more plentiful than halves, But they are out there if whoever's job it is will put some effort into finding one.

Somewhere in the dust of time rest the bones of the Galilean
He who was spat upon. He whose face was marred beyond all human likeness
Somewhere buried among the lies of the past rests the tomb of Yeshua
Of he who was made God in a world without Hope.
And when this son of Joseph is found. What then will the Church of Rome say?
Prepare yourself for the day is coming. And men will say
"Blessed are the wasted lives who perished in the flames of the holy war": |

He's our top try scorer, ball carrier, metre maker, tackle buster, clean break maker and has the highest average gain and in many of those it isn't even close. There aren't many wingers out there as good as Jerry and if he actually realises that the rest of Superleague is in trouble. Plus he's club trained. His value to this club is enormous.

So, which winger could we realistically get to replace Jerry if we had to ?

| If he could stop conceding tries by improving his positioning he'd be in the England squad for sure.

If he played for one of the 'big 4' yes...
Thing is... He finishes great and returns a ball like a forward but doesn't have that 'x factor' that Briscoe, Charnley, Burgess and Hall have. X factor being them special moments in open field creating as well as scoring try's out of nothing.
Wingers like Makinson, Lineham and Penny will probably be looked at before Mcgillvary too.
Sad because we know he'd put in a great effort and do a job for England but will probably never be picked.

| there wasn`t a lot on when he got the ball on friday -and lethal from 15 -20 yds out !
........and yes he may step out of the line to stop an opposition move and miss them at times - but its as he sees it in that split second in play - not sat up in the stand !
He~ll do for me thanks and before charnley Lineham and Briscoe for starters! There have been star international wingers in the past with strong hand offs and pace to burn -but couldnt tackle /didnt want to - a paper bag!
He might make mistakes but anyone who gets involved as much as he does will - and theyre then noticed But you get 110% every game if nowt else!
Considering how long hes been playing the game just think what he could have been like
Then again with SOME posters on here he couldnt escape SOME criticism could he ? Wouldnt be fair to leave him out

Don't agree with any of this. In attack Mcgillvary has every bit as much x factor as all the above. Hall is the complete winger and is good in defence and a outstanding finisher but is not really noted for length of the field tries. Burgess, Charnley and Briscoe are all quality wingers and different sorts of player to Mcgillvary but would not say the are better attackers.
In defence though the above players are better.
And to suggest Penny would get an England call up before Mcgillvary is laughable.

| I think there is something of the "x factor" with Jerry - when he gets the ball there's always that bit of a lift in the crowd which suggests they think something could happen. as for defence he has got caught out on occasions - all of the others named have also been caught out - but I also think he's often left in a no win situation by Cudjoe who has a worse habit of jumping out - I know, another argument there - and leaving him exposed. All the other wingers highlighted have qualities, but so does Jerry and I think he's as dangerous as any. By the way, I also realise he benefits from Cudjoe feeding him to finish off tries as well.

Just my opinion on I think McBanana would pick for England over Mcgillvary. As said I'd love to see him in an England shirt and wouldn't replace him in a Giants shirt with any of the above name simply because of his heart he shows every time he takes the field.
But he's often out of the spot light.. Underrated.. He doesn't do the X factor things that get people talking. It's always about the play that got him the try not what he did individually.
Yet let's say Burgess got an identical try it'll be about how good he his.
The England coach won't take a chance on him and play it safe with the big teams star wingers.
It's very unlucky but it'll happen that way.
I'd think it would be different if he'd play or Leeds or Wigan.

I think that's very harsh, to be honest.
In previous seasons he did have a problem with his decision making, but this season he has been pretty spot on (bar a couple of occasions).
One could also argue that his decisions to come in unnecessarily may be down to a lack of confidence in his centre.
