| Quote gazzagiant="gazzagiant"Durham I've been following home and away for the best part of 50 years and am getting cheeses off with being bracketed as being part of the past and Don't count now. I'm all for the club trying anything to help the atmosphere but sympathise with the choir who get drowned out. Perhaps it's a lot of the new fans (say last 5years) who deserted after last season and the price increases. I on the other hand am still going! Silly me, me being part of the past and all that!'"
I am not having a go at individuals but the reality is that for the club to survive it NEEDS NEW FANS with NEW MONEY to add to us old fookers who turn up week in and week out.
Many of these newer fans IMHO want atmosphere. If the fans are not providing it dont knock the club for trying.
I just do not see this thing where the music has killed the singers. I cannot remember many good atmospheres at the Galpharm ever. Every memory i have of good atmospheres in the last 10 years was at away games.
My nephew who i dragged along to Giants games over the last 6 or 7 years has a season ticket for Town but prefers rugby but has not got a season ticket for the Giants because he thinks home games are boring. He would rather go to away games that have atmosphere but the reality is that he ends up putting money into the pockets of cas and Wakey and Leeds rather than Huddersfield

| Ever since the ground has been built the Fartown singing section has been in the same place. GD & meast have been at the centre of it from day 1. The folk that have been going since the first game at the new stadium know this, surely.
There already is a singing section. It is well known and it's not up to the singing section to move; it's up to those that want to sing to move to the singing section. The traditional singing section is still the area most densely populated with singers. This, IMO, is obvious to anyone who attends although it's fair to say that this season the ground has never been as quiet. Ever.

I accept that which is why i mentioned having one section in the centre towards the back of the Kilner stand where they congregate. and i know that those two you mention put a lot into it but there is not an equivalent in the other stand.
I also think that if the club were to tell the ST holders how important the singing etc is and that they were to designate sections and people could swap their season ticket seats to be closer together then it might just be that little extra boost that people need.
I just feel so demoralised that people slag the club off for doing things when they are just trying to address some of the problems they see. Yet i do think there are alternatives if people were little bit more open minded.
The club are doing the music beacuse the surrent atmosphere is so dire.

| I'm not wanting to slag the club off, merely pointing out what i , and as it turns out, a few others on here dont like about the matchday experience.
The atmosphere has being going downhill for a while now and the fact that any singing nowadays is drowned out by the music is a big factor.....the music wasnt brought in because the singing had stopped its the other way round !!.
There is no point trying to get a song going if someone decides to blurt we will rock you out over the top of it or trying to celebrate a try with Tom Hark blaring out - that isn't how our fans celebrate tries.
I personally dont think it is helping the atmosphere one bit, quite the opposite therefore as one of the 'leading singers' feel i need to voice my concern that it is hindering the atmosphere.
I accept people have differrent opinions, some people may like it but i cant see how anyone can say it is helping !!.

| I don't think there could be anything but good things come from congregating singers together but people don't want to move.
The way things are going atmosphere wise this season there may well be a moment where people decide to make a change. If the singing section gets up a bit for the next couple of games and make a point of making some noise then maybe that will attract people from elsewhere in the ground.
Negativity breeds negativity. We need a bit of positivity in the stands as well as on the pitch.

| We sit at the back of the Britannia and might be regarded as part of the 'singing' section so it is easy to look down over the stand and see how supporters respond to what is going on. Although we have been hard-pressed to get any sort of singing/chanting going (and our numbers in this section have also declined alarmingly from previous seasons - our row from being almost fully occupied now has about 6 people in it) we have noticed that any chants that do get going the response seems to have spread/be spreading throughout the stand directly in front of us and outwards so the potential is definitely there. I think people do want to join in but are too shy/embarassed/reluctant/isolated to do so. On the other hand I can accept that people watch and support the game how they wish but there are several that sit in front of us that can't even manage to clap when we score and the disapproval that radiates for even daring to shout/chant/cheer/clap can be quite off-putting - how they think their almost complete silence encourages the team on the pitch I don't know. I'm not sure what the answer is - perhaps the club could organise a brain-storming get together specifically to put forward suggestions for increasing crowd participation and hopefully gates too. I know people on the boards/social networks often put forward suggestions and there are some good ones but perhaps this needs to be co-ordinated and centralised..

I understand that i dont want to move to the Britannia mainly bercause i go with my family and there are a few kids we bring along so would rather be in the Family stand. I am not really happy with our new seats so have moved back to our old seats which are unresrved but as Fifi says if the club want to make a suggestion for singers to congregate in some seats maybe some people will be willing to move. even just getting 10 singers together in the Riverside stand would improve my enjoyment. I would love to be with a few people who want to sing and hopefully inspire others around us.
Something has to be done i just hope the club can try something.

| Dont forget though that traditionally the Kilner bank stand always housed the singers and noiser fans while the riverside tended to be the more quieter fans so that probably explains why its harder for you over there to get some singers.

| my issue isn't with people moving to different parts of the ground - just that god awful din that is produced while the match is on.

| Playing music when we score isnt something new- the players at one time used to have there own theme tune played when they scored- thormans was spandau ballets gold!
It happens at a lot of grounds that music is played when the home team scores.
why are you objecting to it now?
