| Yeah Wardle will get banned most likely, a shame. He should be straight back in the side the week after though.
Our young lads are really stepping up.
Its hard to see where Aaron Murphy fits in the back line now, especially when Cudjoe and Jerry are back. Maybe he will move to the 2nd row?
Please stick with Mamo on the wing. Ive been calling for this for a while, much better suited there. Will he get a new deal though? I dont think he will....especially if we promote the Senior Twins.
Matty English and Jake Wardle will go from strength to strength now, can see them been first team regulars moving forward and not looking back.

That is probably the brightest bit of light at the end of the tunnel, we have some promising looking youngsters, Hopefully Woolford is the man to develop them, and weed out some dead wood.
Great to get a win at last and not to take away from that, but our line speed is reminiscent of a line of carrots waving in the wind, Widnes line speed was 3 times as fast as ours and their offloading light years ahead.
That said there was some effort tonight, I thought the halves were very good and Wardle , well he won MOM, rightly so. Onward and upwards

Mamo is better on the wing as his weaknesses Of passing and cathching aren’t exposed whilst his strengths or running and tackling are enhanced.
Good to get a win- almost forgotten what it felt like.
Brough and Russell next week in the halves? Turner at centre as wardle won’t play.'"
Glad your not the coach.
Olly Russell isn’t the standard we need- otherwise Wigan would have kept hold of him!!!!
Changed your tune about olly Russell

I’ve seen Faz control a game as well as brough- his kicking is excellent. Hes Young and learning and his style of play means he needs to play behind a dominant pack.'"
Faz is behind walker and brambani at Batley, has only played 3 games for them this year

Given his age I’d expect that to be the case. I worry more that he’d be better off here learning from brough than at Batley.
And yes- I have as Russell was a lot better than when I saw him last year. unlike others I will admit when I get it wrong.
As for wardle don’t get your hopes up- he will likely be at cas next year. A bit of a kick in the teeth if he makes that choice after we looked after him the last two years through his injury issues - so let’s hope that means something when he makes his choice.

And have you actually heard this or just presuming as Joe is there and we are struggling this year?

| Well I thought we thoroughly deserved that. Yes there were flaws but there was spirit, determination and I felt we deserved a greater margin.
Widnes were poor, very poor and the ref really kept them in it (all three of their tries came from questionable double penalties with a ridiculously forward Pass on the build up to the last one).vs
So a satisfying evening, but still need to improve for Wakey next week

| Besides the young lads excelling, thought it was rankins best game in the claret and gold. Also, Thought turner , and his long passes added to us offensively.

| Yes it was certainly Rankins best game this season.
Was the right sort of game to introduce Ollie Russell into the team.
I wouldn't get carried away with that result though as Widnes are terrible and made for us with their style of play - they are unable to make breaks so we cope well with teams like that.
Next week will be a bigger task. Thorman says Jerry might be back but I would leave him until the week after.
Id like to see a Brough/Turner partnership in the halfs going forward if they dont think Russell is capable of playing week in week out at the moment.

| Stats indicate a solid performance from Mellor. Highest tackler with 41, 114 metres -average 8.14 metres per carry, 3 tackle busts.

Mellor ran hard all night and runs really good lines. He doesn't get spoken about too much, but it's good to have him back in the team.
Scored the winning try too.

| I said after the Catalan game that Turner is our best current half back, and i haven't changed my mind. Maybe the new coach will be able to see this. The one area we lacked bigtime today was midfield kicking, which was poor and often too easy to diffuse, so Brough and Turner should work. Danny needs to be told to stick to mainly kicking duties and leave the creative stuff to others, but whether he would agree with this is another matter. From what i've seen so far our spine should be 1, Rankin, 6, Turner, 7, Brough, and 9, O'Brien/Leeming. This is as good as we can get at the moment.

| great to have that winning feeling again and to see the youngsters like wardle with two tries...boy he can jump! russell did nothing wrong for his debut.
can see going forward turner and brough in the halves.
rankin so much better at full back, man of the match for me, he is better under the high ball than mamo and can actually pass!!!!
mamo looked good on the wing so can keep him there.
like other poster has said our line speed was so slow! we will need to play alot better than that to beat wakefield next week but that win will give the lads a boost for sure

| Turner is a running half that will go to the line but also has a pass in him. He's not he best running half by any stretch but he brings variety IMO and gives the opposition something different to think about.
It was a deserved win but we gave Widnes every point via the concession of penalties. Ikahihifo, great player with ball in hand though he is, is as thick as soup in defence. When we are stretched he basically hangs on until he concedes a penalty - please coach him not to hang on at all when we are close to our line because he isn't intelligent enough to do it and not get pinged for it. He is too blatant.
The youngsters did well. The young half I was really impressed with in terms of his kicking game and it yielded a couple of tries. Defences will figure that out quickly though, he has the element of surprise at the moment because it was his first game in SL for us.
Wardle was good too but the tackle will likely see him banned now despite it being accidental. Would be very disappointed to see him go to Cas if that happens as we have supported him. Plus, short term, he is going to be better off staying with us as he will likely get more games.
Best thing for me was that they seemed a bit more together and determined. A bit fitter as well. It would be great if we could keep hold of Bumper and have him take us through another pre-season like his first spell with us. We may not have had the skill level of the opposition back then but we were stronger, ran harder and had more stamina than them. Combine that with giving everything you've got and that is going to take you a long way. We know it will, we watched it and were all stoked to see it.
As for last night, all in all it is a win. A deserved one. I hope they get confidence from it and build on it.
