| Quote: raceman "Yes you are bang on there. We did qualify last year but the club were not prepared to cough up the £75K prize money (not £170K as mentioned earlier). Whether we will this time remains to be seen.'"
I was pretty comfortable with the club not participating last year as Wire clearly finished higher than us by virtue of getting to the semi-final. They also finished higher than Cas. And as I recall, the official club line was that we didn't qualify, which given the play off results seems plausible to me.
But this year, there are not other clubs higher than us, so it should be us.
The idea that Saints should get the game ahead of us is pretty galling, but Warrington? Who didn't even make the semi-finals? That's utterly ridiculous. Castleford and St Helens have a better claim on the game than Wire. Even Hull KR, as beaten Cup finalists, have a better claim on it than Wire.
I'll be beyond ed off if the club turn down the chance to play in this series. Really, I'd consider packing it in and switching allegiance to Batley. That's how deeply frustrated I am with the club's management.

| i've heard and read( i don't do rumours but just putting it out there) that us, saints, Hull Kr and Cas all were offered and all turned it down, wire according to rumourmongers are the only ones willing to stump up the £180k bond.
now this is probably all a load of bull, but if it's true, should the governing bodies, and i inlcude SKY in that, not be paying the cost of the Australians to get over here? they are wanting to expand the series and turn it into a big global event but yet the competing clubs are expected to pay all the costs?
not sure that's right?
last year i wasn't bothered about it, but this year i am, we are by right, the 3rd best team in the northern hemisphere and should compete in it this year. if we have been given the chance and turned it down then it's not good IMO, yes it's a lot of money, but it could also be a big missed opportunity for us.
time will tell though.

You are correct Daz. But don't let the truth get in the way of a good rumour.

too right fella, why should clubs pay to enter the wcc, we don't have to fork vast sume to enter sl or challenge cup
if sl/rfl want this event to get bigger, then they should di into their own pocket

| I can see it now, your 4,750 die hards sat in an empty stadium embarrassing our game on sky, that why your not likely to be in it in reality.
Joking apart my understanding is there has to be a £180k bond paid as last year. Huddersfield need to use an opportunity like this to increase there position in the local area and get bums on seats and promote the game to the younger kids businesses etc etc etc. Unfortunately Huddersfield are crap at marketing as their attendances prove. It's a shame really because on the field they are a team on the up.

Looks worse still at our stadium than Leeds as ours is a lot bigger place than leeds and if you were playing at our place there would still be plenty of empty seats.

It's all irrelevent anyway, we haven't been picked.
2015 Super League Grand Finalists Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors will be joined by St Helens as the third team to compete in the Series. They will face the NRL Minor Premiers, Sydney Roosters, Grand Final runners up, Brisbane Broncos and NRL Champions, North Queensland Cowboys.
The World Club Series will be hosted by the First Utility Super League and played over three days from Friday February 19 to Sunday February 21, climaxing in the World Club Challenge to determine the world’s best Rugby League club.
As Leeds Rhinos claimed two of three possible qualification positions the Super League Board decided to invite St Helens to take part in the Series on the basis they reached both the Super League semi-final and Challenge Cup semi-final in the 2015 season, have a strong history in the World Club Challenge and will add value to the 2016 tournament.

I am just disgusted with this. Saints are in because they are a "big club". Not for any other reason.
I hope they get shat on by whichever NRL club they play.
