| so your owner is keeping brierley in the dark about interest from other clubs. Hmm. Not sure that's the best policy TBH. It certainly didn't work with rowley at Halifax-in fact he was particularly bitter about them doing so as he saw them stunting his domestic AND international career......

| Quote: Alan "Here's the latest from our owner on Ryan Brierley, in his weekly newspaper column:-
A bit disingenuous to suggest the leak about the bids came from within the Giants bearing in mind the number of leaks and stories emanating from Leigh in recent weeks.

Don't think he reckons the leak came from the Giants. Isn't he suggesting that the leak came from the same journalist, who divulged the term in Ryan's contract about the coach leaving? I think that journalist was on one of the RL websites.

Think his contract may be up at the end of this season. If so, theoretically he could leave without a fee being paid. That's the gamble for our owner - hope that Ryan helps us achieve promotion, and possibly keep him, or lose him with no fee coming in.

Oh I think he was suggesting that, in the following paragraph he appears to be clear "That leaves the interested party with the knowledge – so I would suggest they may need to review their procedures on maintaining confidentiality, given this has appeared in the press."
After all the journalist must have found out from somewhere- and the chairman is claiming he's the only one at the Leigh club that knew about the bids -saying that Ryan himself didn't know about them.
Wouldn't surprise me at all if the leak came from the chairman himself. He's known for putting his foot in his mouth regularly, including drunken rants- and he certainly loves the attention for the club - all publicity.......

| Who knows? His agent might certainly be heading down to headingly tomorrow night though for a half time bidding war. Might be wide of the mark here but why do Leeds need him? And also if we make two official bids which weren't disclosed to player (as said by Beaumont) as they weren't accepted, then what happens is the story of these bids is leaked followed by this!? Maybe I'm seeing something which isn't there. What ever the crazy air was in Salford last season, it's drifted down the East lancs!

| Just seen Ryan Brierley at Marstons. Big smile on his face. Ordered a chicken sandwich with coleslaw and a big box of wings with chilli dip. If that's not a man celebrating a new contract.... well, I don't know what is.

| In a post match interview on Radio Manchester today, our owner confirmed that Huddersfield were the only club to make an official approach for Ryan recently, when they had two bids turned down.
Interestingly, he stated that Keiron Purtill and Paul Anderson had identified Brierley as a possible target for next season - as a full back.
Now, I happen to believe that he would excel there, with time to use his pace, chiming into attack. For my money, having watched Ryan develop, I don't see him as a creative half back - young Lewis Charnock, on loan from Saints probably showed more creativity in the first 40 minutes today, than Ryan has in the previous three games. However, he would be lethal coming into the attack from the back - although he may find it harder to scoop many of his trademark interceptions from there!

but can he organise a defensive line and position them where they are needed, that is the most important role of a full back.

That is yet another unknown about |Ryan. He's played there a couple of times for Leigh, but not in 'significant' matches. As Allan Hunte said on Radio Manchester, he's been fine in this league, and has got some outstanding qualities, but SL is a completely different game. Still, I guess the lad definitely deserves a chance to prove himself at that level. I personally don't think he would necessarily make it as a half back.
