Haywards pickles, by royal appointment no less, on Wakefield Road between moldgreen and aspley.'"
Coincidently, its Shaws pickles isn't it, not Haywards?
And, continuing on the Shaw theme, Bentley Shaw brewery at Lockwood park which then became part of Bass.

| Vine Products at Magdale Vinery where they bottled QC sherry & SVW based where Pink Link is now.
I think the Vinery closed in 1989, SVW may have operated from the site for longer.

| In construction there was JB Brooke --who built a lot of houses in the west Yorks /Kirklees area(they had a "yard" just beyond the viaduct up Manchester Road ) next to Wimpennys ( another civil engineering firm)
Henry Brooke -down Leeds Road (next to the fast food outlets opposite the Peacock) -who were structural engineers /steel fabricators
plus Mallinsons on Albert Street, Lockwood(Building Contractors )
Milnsbridge/ Longwood/ Slaithwaite was a hot bed of textiles and there were many notable mills in addition to those mentioned previously like
CJ Hirsts / John Crowthers . and James Shires, and Moxons at Kirkburton and Huddersfield Fine Worsteds at Kirkheaton
Most of the mills that have now sadly closed were , as others have said , involved in the manufacture of "fine worsteds"- and known worldwide for some of the best suit and clothing material made anywhere !They upgraded to the latest machinery --the old machinery got refurbished and shipped to the Middle and Far East ---and the rest is history alas!

There was another Haigh on MAnchester Road - or was it on the other side of the canal? - called James [?] Haigh. It was next to Harold Haigh.

| How about one of the most advertised companies in Huddersfield?
Henry Brook & Co. Ltd.
If you look at many grate / manhole covers in the streets of Huddersfield, the majority used to have the above name on them. Brooks was a foundry on Colne Road and existed for over 150 years until it's demise in 2002. From 1947 it supplied structural steelwork from it's workshop off Leeds Road which Dual Seal Glass now occupy.
