| great to get the win, never easy over at widnes and we went in as underdogs
the conditions were a replica of the warrington match, poured it down all the match!
widnes were awful , we should have put the game to bed by half time, bombed so many chances...mamo especially needs to learn how to pass when he comes into the line...but i just dont think its in his game which is a shame, mcgillvary should have had a hat trick!
got a little worried when widnes came back at us but we just had enough left , just cant trust the giants right now to get the job done, still alot of work to do.
the red card was correct, shocking tackle on mcgillvary... albert will have to learn fast you cant do that and get away with it here. hinchliffe got a sin bin but didnt see what for, hope hes not banned, he is such a workhorse gets through a mountain of work.
sam wood once again never lets us down, he is huge! certainly put on a lot of size pre season, came off injured though

Can't say that we were playing a poor team either as you turned the Rhino's over last time out and they are no poor team. Early day's and return of players from injury will see us improving. Good luck for the rest of the season Vikingsufferer (apart from the return leg).

| Great pity if Sam is injured again ,at this stage he needs a concentrated run of games in our first team and i am sure he would come on in leaps and bounds, please dont send him out on loan somewhere ,we need him to be a regular first teamer at our club

Absolutely! I know they always try and be careful with the youngsters- but yes he should definitely be playing regularly at this level in our side -not on loan. Even if it’s not EVERY week.
Couldn’t go to the game but listened to commentary on radio Leeds- they reckoned Sam didn’t want to come off when he was subbed and said he was arguing with support staff about it so perhaps he will be ok.
Velvers was very critical of Mamo in the first half-JD also made a comment about his lack of passing ability brearley!
Sounded like Hinchcliffe has some nasty injuries to his knees from the 3G pitch -so if he does get a ban it will give him time to heal! Don’t want them getting infected like Lawrence’s 3G injuries did. But boy will we miss him on the pitch.
We sounded decent in the first half and dire in the second.

Daz, let’s put it in perspective- Leeds were coming off the back off jet lag- all three teams that had travelled lost that weekend.
As for Brough- compare to maguire, still winning trophies at and for Leeds. But he gets to 35 and Leeds say thanks for all your hard work but weve had the best of you, you aren’t the player you were it’s now time to move you on.
That’s a winning club mentality.

The thing is, Brough five years had nine good games for every one bad game (if we ignore games that really mattered*). That ratio - perfectly naturally - has fallen as he’s aged. He can still produce a great performance. But less and less often.
A club that genuinely wanted to win something would have been making some pretty ruthless decisions over the past few years. Those decisions haven’t happened. That’s why we win nowt and St Helens win a lot.
* he loses it in big games and goes into his shell - always did, which, let’s be honest, is why he ended up playing for us and not Wigan or St Helens. That mentality would either have been drilled out of him or he’d have been moved on.

To be fair we have seen the best of Danny. He fully deserved his man of steel. He was the best player in SL that season, no doubt. A great coach gets the best out of players and Anderson did that with Danny during that season. Anderson couldn't repeat the trick and neither has anyone else.

| As said previously, the sooner the Brough era ends the sooner we can start to build around a new half and hopefully maybe a new style of play. The conditions at Widnes suited Danny's game, his kicks caused real problems. The problem is, as was seen against saints and to a lesser degree wakefield, we cannot open up a defence near the line if they defend kicks well. This team actually has some talented outside backs, and we need to be getting the best from them. Time to move on and try something/someone new at the end of the year.

I totally agree. Brough was an outstanding, albeit flawed, player.
But he turned 35 this year.
He’s done. Brutal, but true. Move him on with dignity.

| Dont get me wrong its great to get a win and if we win next week 3 wins from 6 doesn't seem that bad.
Are we lacking fitness?
Hull - 0 points scored in 2nd half. 28 points conceded in 2nd half.
Warrington - 6 points scored in 2nd half. 0 points conceded in 2nd half
St Helens - 4 points scored in 2nd half. 12 points conceded in 2nd half.
Wakefield - 0 points scored in 2nd half. 16 points conceded in 2nd half
Widnes - 14 points scored in 2nd half. 16 points conceded in 2nd half.
Something to me certainly doesn't sit right with regards to our fitness. Very worrying really considering how bad Widnes and Warrington actually were when we played both of them teams.
Been 100% realistic here, from all the games i've witnessed so far from other clubs. Hull KR, Catalans and Widnes will be the bottom 3. It will then be a huge fight between us, Salford and Warrington to avoid the bottom 4/make top 8.
Sam Wood if not injured, has to retain is place for next week. Wigan and Saints etc always reward their youngsters and give them an extended run when they have played well, something we need to do now. Hes far better than Gaskell in that position. However, you just know Stone will more than likely keep Gaskell in the centres and brign back Turner.
If Gaskell HAS to play if be tempted to go:
1. Rankin
2. Jerry
3. Wood
4. Turner
5. Mamo
6.Gaskell
7. Brough
Mamo is great at trying to latch onto kicks etc but his passing/handling is absolutely dire and he doesn't hit the line very good. Sort of does that play where he bolts for the corner then just stop dead in his tracks and gets caught. Half tempted to try him on the wing outside Turner.
100% agree with everything regarding Brough, He still has it occasionally and gives 100% but he is no longer effective against teams with good defences who defend kicks well. We need to move on from him this year and try something new.
