Durham- your logic is flawed. We should play to the rules of the game not the whim of the ref! Child is usually mr whistle. Last night he only actually "gave" two penalties - The touchies gave more.

We were actually on the right end of the penalty count. We apparently gave away two.

Actually my logic would appear to be spot on.

One team then took advantage of that ( Salford) and the other team did not adapt ( Huddersfield).

My logic is that you adapt.

If a player gets sent to the Sin bin you adapt, you lose a key player you adapt, the opposition play a certain tactic you adapt. The ref plays an interpretation you adapt.
As a maths teacher i know you understand logic. We did not not adapt.
Did we keep claiming penalties for lying on or not standing square from about minute 5 to minute 79 ( i left with a minute to go to avoid the traffic).

Now i know that evolution takes millions of years.

Sportsman should be able to adapt quicker than that.

At what point should our players or coaching staff have thought.

Aye up he is not policing the offside or the ruck area for Salford we should do the same.

Because i saw Murphy wafting his arms in the air looking for a penalty that was not going to come in minute 74.

Just out of interest to the referee critics.

Who is the one or two referees that are good or are sympathetic to the Giants.

I would love to know which referees are going to be above criticism.

I know Bentham is not popular, obviously Childs isnt, Silverwood is not much good judging by previous criticism on here. The young kid who did the Wakey game was slated on here for , " odd decisions".

So who do you want to ref us because there are not many left ?.

Durham- we've spent the season moaning the players lack discipline and give away penalties- the coach has said the players give away too many penalties- we can hardly then complain that we don't commit offences that will give away penalties!!!!!
There is a difference between adapting within the rules of the game and adapting outside them. I'm sure anderson will go through the proper channels rather than shooting his mouth off like certain other coaches. It can then be dealt with quietly as the RfL prefer - In fact that may well work in our favour.

Actually maybe my last post just feeds into the ref paranoia maybe a more important question is.

Why after 9 games do we struggle to pass the ball properly ( there were some shockers last night a bullet pass from Brough to Tai, one to Murphy where he had to jump in the air to catch it, one to wardle that went so far behind him the full back had to pick it up), catch the ball and to hold it.

At which point will Anderson stop saying after a game , "We need to improve, we need better ball retention " Because so far it has been after games in rounds 1, 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 .

That has never seemed to do us any favours in the past or are you suggesting that some refs are now good to us because we have complained to Red Hall ?


But surely the issue is that if a ref is playing a certain way they you do the same.

The game is over now dealing with it at Red Hall wont get us two points back.

If we started doing what Salford did then the ref either A lets it go or B penalises us and risks being accused of bias or C the ref starts reffing to what is going on and starts policing offside.

Either way the solution has to be for our team to do what needs to be done within the 80 minutes of the game.

I also think that some of our tactics of slowing the PTB are pretty amateurish. The lazy step over of the player as he is playing the ball is a bit too obvious.

A committed fan like you Durham saying a team should have to adapt their game based upon a referee is possibly the most concerning thing I have heard since I began following the Super League. A referee should, I repeat SHOULD have absolutely no impact on a teams playing style, tackling style anything. The rules can but referees... no way! It is ridiculous to suggest that it should be that way! Oh and I understand that this is a topic on childs but what your are saying about anderson is spot on. Since the beginning of 2014 he has been saying in almost every interview 'we need to be smarter with the ball' and 'we need to respect it'. The fact he has been saying it for so long strongly suggests nothing has changed.

Ask any ex pro or anyone who has played sport at the highest level and i would guess that everyone of them tells you you have to adapt to the referee.

I watched quite a bit of the six nations. In virtually every game commentators talked about , " refereeing interpretations" particularly in respect of the ruck and maul area. They talked about Irelands choke tackle ( which is where you tackle the player and hold him up so that he cannot fall to the ground) as an area that had different interpretaions.

When Ireland beat England it was because they played to the rules better.

In football every week you see the pundits commentating on penalty and foul play. Every week you hear them say that, " to the letter of the law that should have been a red or , i have seen penalties given for less, last week the ref gave a penalty for that but this week did not". That is interpretation.

The referee in every game is a variable depending on interpretation, new directives, what was discussed in the refs meeting or what side of the bed they got out of.

Players have to be ready to respond to that within the 80 minutes of the game.

I can see on Monday our players thinking we will play offside or slow the PTB and being penalised to death.

We have to learn to adapt quicker or alternatively dont play so badly and put ourselves on the back foot in the first few minutes.

There is a difference between interpretation of a rule in a range of circumstances and not policing the rules at all.
