| Quote: jools "I do hope not. Woodford has a similar track record to stone- and that didn’t work out too well.
A different approach is surely needed by the club.'"
No he doesn't.
Woolford has 3 or 4 years of coaching a country side and a couple of years of NRL reserve grade.
Stone had been very successful in the Qld cup, NSW cup, been assistant coach to Brian Smith, Michael Hagan and Wayne Bennett, coached Fiji to a top 4 finish in the WC, as well as 2 stints as an NRL coach.
Woolford has literally a tenth of Stone's resume.

Huddersfield Giants - "We know our place": |
|
| Quote: Raaaaymond "Terry Flanagan was the coach when Alex Murphy was the Manager. IIRC.'"
Murphy was the boss. I doubt he'd have had it any other way
Terry Flanagan is a remarkable man. A hell of a life story to him. One of those types who gets things done.

stone did ok at the giants, when all said and done he came in and saved us from the drop in his first half season then first full season got us in the top 8.
this season didnt start well and he paid for it but look at us since he has gone!! worse.
woolford has the same kind of task as stone, save us from the drop and improve again next season... we shall wait and see

| Rick Stone achieved everything he was asked to as head coach of the giants, to stave off relegation in his 1st year then make the top 8 in his 2nd. He did both so anyone saying he did a bad job is wrong.

| Stone had us playing a predictable and unexciting brand of Rugby, uninspiring perhaps but in the main competitive. Thorman has been hopeless, an absolutely disastrous spell in charge, showing Stone was not quite so bad, there was at least a structured approach under his tenure. The decision to allow several games under Thorman really has placed the club in jeopardy. The new coach has a real challenge due to that awful decision.

| There’s are only 4 bits of comment I want to read at the minute as it is clear we are in a huge mess.
The current players are unlikely to get us out of this as
A/ they are not good enough (too many to name)
B/ they are injured / injury prone ( Jerry / Leroy)
C/ too old or have the wrong attitude. (Brough)
D/ they are not interested and see relegation as a way of getting a gig at another club( any with ambition)
.SO THE ONLY NEWS THAT INTERESTS ME ATM IS
1/ NEW COACH who / when do they get here.
2/ which players are leaving
3/ which players are joining us with the new coach. a Prop with a heart and half back with a brain and back with pace and ball handling would be priorities.
4/ Ken selling up
5/ Thewlis retiring to take up fishing .

The examiner might mention it in passing about Thursday....

| And the only thing worth noting on Wikipedia about his coaching is the fact he smashed a coaching booth and was suspended. Doesn’t fill me with hope.
Still I suppose he’s got nothing to lose. But I’m not sure he’s what we need.
Problem is we won’t know until it’s too late. We don’t have the luxury of time.
He’s got a massive mess to unpick, and no track record of doing so successfully.
He has no experience of the game in the UKand I bet also has very little knowledge of us as a team or our players. Poor bloke.
I just hope he doesn’t have us trying to play that boring Aussie style of play and realises that just will not work.
I feel we’ve hit a new low this year -he needs a massive spade to dig us out of a very big hole. We will have to see whether he can do it.

| Put a jersey on him. He'd still be your best player.
Better yet, sign a few of his sons. They are very talented kids.

He’s gping to be massively disappointed with our players when he finally sees them. He won’t have found much footage of them since we’ve barely been on tv the last two years.

Well i'm inclined to think jools is right because if he had seen our games he surely wouldn't have applied for the job, unless he see's it as a stepping stone to bigger things down the track, which to be fair is pretty much the same as most Aussie's.
On the other hand he may be full of confidence in his abilities as a coach and really believe he can do a job for us, If he's prone to smashing things up a bit , it at least shows he has some passion about him, which is definitely something we have been short on in recent years.
We need someone to take our players out of the comfort zone and instil some sort of urgency in them, I just hope he is the man to do that and i hope he has been given a free reign to do it and play the players he wants rather than the so called big names.
What we don't need is another two years of what we have just had, Rick stone was far from the worst coach we have had and credit to him he did keep us up in Super league aided and abetted by others ( mainly Brierley ) and he was desperately unlucky with the injury situation, At the end of the day he didn't take us forward ( whatever the reasons ) and he paid the price as coaches do.
This new guy to me has an even bigger job on his hands and to be honest no one can knock him until he has had a chance, He may not have been the coach we would have wanted or hoped for but he can't do any worse than most of what we have had, who knows he may just be another Tony Smith.
End of the day he deserves a fair chance from the fans and more importantly he needs to be left alone by the board to do as he sees fit, otherwise it will have just been a wasted exersize and more of the same old, same old.

| Pretty sure he would have talked to Rick Stone.
He has been coaching Rick's son for 18 months and Rick has gone to the last few games and lives in the same town, so I imagine they have talked.

| The new coach is a downgrade on your last one. A poor mans Rick Stone if you like.
Doubtless you'll be calling for his head before long as well.
