| Quote: Durham Giant "well i wrote to Richard Thewlis and James Brammer and spoke to both on the phone ( after they phoned me). If you want to suggest anyone else feel happy to forward any names to me.
It was a simple suggestion
3 trestle tables one at each entrance to the Riverside stand and one at the end of the Britannia stand ( ropewalk end) selling penny sweets flying saucers, jelly hearts fruit salad etc [size to kids[/size. A bit like those stalls at CAS..( Inside near where they sell the C&G tickets and programmes) Would not affect current merchandising or sales etc. Would be run by volunteers ( i also wrote a whole suggestion about using volunteers organised by the club with ideas on how to sell it, " your club needs you" etc etc etc
[sizeI offered to pay £200 for the first lot of sweets[/size. All i would have needed was someone with a makro card
Both of them got back to me thanking me for my ideas, both said they would get back to me have not heard a dickie bird since.
Maybe they just though it was a poop idea and were being politefinancing and all profits could go to talenbuilder
I still think it would be a good idea. Kids and sweets always seemto go well together.
Then again maybe it was just a waste of time'"
How is selling sweets to kids from Trestle tables going to make people sing more? I don't get it.

I agree. There's a couple of lads just behind me who are like that.

if you go back to my original post where i said that i had made a suggestion on how singing sections could be put into place you will understand it as you well do.
I then pointed out the difficulty in doing so was one of WILL on behalf of the club, i then used the example of selling sweets to kids as another example of things the club could do to help improve the match day experience and atmosphere if they had the WILL to do so.
The common thread IS the WILL to do so.
It would appear to me that the club do not have the Will to do things that they could do to improve the atmosphere.
Unfortunately i have become somewhat exasperated in communicating with the club about such things. Unfortunately there are many others who have exactly the same experience however for political and practical expediency are unable to speak out.
Thewlis was saying that they were dissappointed in the croweds at the Galpharm this season in the Examiner last week.
Whilkst Ken has bankrolled the team and many other things have been put in place at various times we are still struggling to get the increase in crowds that are needed to maintain the club in the longer term..
I have put forward ideas to the club and they have not felt the need to act upon them. That is their decision.
If others can put forward better ideas or the club themselves can develop things to improve attendances, the match day attendances, the atmosphere etc then now is the time to do it.
If anyone has any other ideas Please feel free to make your suggestions to the club or air them on here.

That's the problem with opinions, everyone's got one....That's the good thing about opinions, everyone's got one: |

| Is it not just the acoustics in that stand? I've heard you plenty times home and away, and you're as noisy a bunch as any team has.
When you played Wigan at home, we were towards the left of said stand, about middle, and we commented that we could hear more from the Wigan fans than yourselves just yards behind us.
Maybe you all need megaphones or some sort of reflective structures fitted to the roof...did none of you watch Blue Peter, sticky back plastic etc

I watch town, see, and they seem to have got the place wired. They have a lot more fans in the Kilner End, but the one thing Town have is, is an active singing section. This is what I think we need - We need an active singing section that is both visible, through being stood, or through having flags or something. Maybe scarfs could be an option? I think if at home matches we just stood up, to the side of the main group of fans, in the middle, or even at the front so we can co-ordinate drumming with the Mascots, we can get a good atmosphere for once at the Kilner End.

We have an active singing section - its been in the same place since August 1994.
I understand what your trying to do here mate but our fans aren't Town fans or Football fans so trying to create part of HTFC's matchday at a giants game wont happen.
The crowd proved against Wire that if the team are playing well then more people will join in the singing.....but also against Salford we saw what happens when they expect us to win or we are winning easily against the 'lesser' teams people dont bother because maybe they feel the team dont need any help!!.
Anyone is welcome to come and sit at the back and join us ...maybe by getting more singers at the back may also help as the more there the more noise to cary and maybe will bump others into joining in more.

does the singing section at HTFC games actually help the atmosphere in general though? when i went there this year with wednesday they had a few young lads near the away stand which was the singing section and although that part of the stand were singing the rest of the stand and the stadium was quiet for most of it.
the only thing we or the club could do is to encourage all people who like to sing and shout to sit in the kilner bank but it wont happen because people have their seats now and wont move, people have said they sit in the middle of the kilner bank but dont always join in the singing for fear of upsetting people around them, well the solution is to come up to the back and get more people joining in at the back which will then encourage more people to join in.
but like we've said before if people dont want to sing then we cant make them, and if people are reluctuant to join in where they sit now then they can move to the back where their voices will be more than welcomed

| If we get a good home game in challenge cup (someone with a big, loud away support) PLEASE come sit in middle as reserved seating does not matter and you will see it will make a difference.

Not one single season ticket holder would move more than 3 seats? I don't believe that for a second. I think it would take a lot more moving than that. And a significant amount of administrative work to organise. What would you do about people who simply refused to co-operate?
Quote: Durham Giant "

But to what end? There wouldn't be a lot of profit in it. Kids who previously didn't want to go to the game are hardly going to be climbing over each other to get there just because they can buy a sherbert dib-dab. What would the presence of a few trestle tables full of Mojo's trigger?
What do you estimate the amount of behind the scenes work that would be involved in putting something like that in place to be? Do you really believe that volunteers would man all the tables? Who would deal with the volunteers? I suspect the potential benefits are simply outweighed by the costs.

| Fact is if we had sweet stands at the game it would cost a fiver for a sherbet dip and the reality is it's not going to improve support one bit.
What will increase supporters is winning games which will drive positive PR, cheaper match day prices (though I do feel we have some of the best prices in the game, particularly the free kids) and Bradford continuing to play poor.
I suppose what I'm trying to say is that really, there isn't a great deal more the club can do, that they aren't already doing. Not realistically anyway.
