As a coach !
The fans and the club have to stop being sentimental. If we are to move on it needs to be done now whilst we are in a decent position.
If we lose Brough next year we are in the 8s and then the million pound game.
Then welcome to oblivion.

| You can't simply get rid of a player who is under contract. And to suggest if Brough is injured we would end up in the million pound game is utter rubbish.

That is why i said Make him a COACH for his final year.
Where do you think we would be without Brough then ?
3rd, 5th, 10th,.
Saints Leeds Wigan all look as strong as last year
Hull Wire Catalans look stronger
we are marginally better as long as Hinchcliffe and Rapira dont turn out to be Faalogo and O,Donnell

| l would have Robbo , Grix ,Wood, and Simpson all out on loan,
Robbo, looks a shadow of his former self, been great had a lot of hits, time to go, Halifax recruiting for next year, hometown club, see out his contract, space on cap.
Grix, lv,e been a fan of Grix, all the time he,s been here. but not getting better, if we are to move on, one to go, we really need a top FB. Again loan see out his contract, like Robbo maybe hometown club Halifax.
Wood, like other posters think he,s good cover for the halves, loan/recall deal.
Simpson, l think he would really benefit from regular gametime, loan to championship club for a year, maybe a club like Sheffield, going full time.
We would create plenty of cap space to buy in, this Hampshire lad fits the bill, believe he,s a wakey lad probably like to come back to the right side of the hill, or one from NRL, not a choice l like but beggers carn,t be choosers, and we have quota space.
lmprovements have to be made or we stand still, Hinchcliffe, is a plus, but Rapira is just one prop for another, with Koppy going.

| Warrington will be stronger but not really convinced either Catalans or Hull are much better next year.
You cannot loan a player like Robinson or Grix to Halifax as they would not be able to afford their wages.

Is our attack based 90% on five runs and then kicks by Brough ? ( or when defensively 3 runs and a long kick to get out of our area)
With Brough out who will kick ?
Without a kicking game what have we got ?
Do you see Ellis as the main replacement ( His kicking is average he is a support kicker) ?
What pace have we got in the backs and halves ?
How good is our passing to be able to play a different type of game ?
Now tell me where we would be without Brough. ?
We will be strong defensively but i do not see us scoring many points.
How many fans would be turning up week in week out watching us .
I think there is a strong case to say that Brough ATM is as important to us as Ken.

This is the recruitment so far for Wire Catalans and Hull. They all look better than they did IMHO.
The only thing that helps is that both Hull and Catalans have poor coaches.
Hull. Scott Taylor (Salford Red Devils), Frank Pritchard (Canterbury Bulldogs), Carlos Tuimavave (Newcastle Knights), Mahe Fonua (Melbourne Storm), Sika Manu (Penrith Panthers), Danny Washbrook (Wakefield Wildcats)
Pritchard is class IMHO.
Wire Kurt Gidley (Newcastle Knights), Tom Lineham (Hull FC), , Jack Hughes (Huddersfield Giants), Mitchell Dodds (Brisbane Broncos).
Catalan Pat Richards (West Tigers), Richie Myler (Warrington Wolves), Dave Taylor (Gold Coast Titans), Paul Aiton (Leeds Rhinos), Justin Horo (Manly Sea Eagles), Jodie Broughton (Huddersfield Giants), Glenn Stewart (South Sydney Rabbitohs).
The pace that Catalan have all over the field is frightening.
I think SL will be more competitive this year than last.
Wigan will be better as they have a lot of young players who will be more experienced.
We on the other hand will be a bit older and slower. Brough, Grix and Robbo have lost some pace which wont be coming back.

| we have a poor coach according to some doom mongers on here and on the facebook groups!
not sure how you can say what will happen next year either, some teams might gel others might fail, some players might not live up to expectations, others might flourish.
every team has the same chance as the others, let's just wait and see what happens? some people were predicting that we would be relegated with PA in charge

Meast we have been waiting to see what happens for the last 20 years, If we haven't got it sussed yet we never will. We get a little better each year and it gives us the idea that next year will be the year, we don't seem to take into account that the other teams are also getting better.
We have got in a couple of players who we seem to be depending on to work miracles, We apparently have Patrick coming back, no doubt hopeing that Wigan will somehow have transformed him into a much better player than we were prepared to let go. Hughes ( a better player is going ).
You ask why does anyone have to go, Answer is simple, half the players in Key positions are either on the way down, or are never going to be good enough to take us to that next level, ( God knows they have had chance )
You seem to be saying lets see how they go this year, We know how they go, they have been here long enough for us to know everything about their game.
If we want crowds to go up we have to play good fast attractive Football and to do that we have to have the right players in the key places, We need someone alongside Brough who can do for us what Briers used to do for Warrington, ( it won't have escaped your notice where Warrington have been going since Briers retired ) anymore than it will how the Giants have improved since Brough arrived.
I'm not saying everything is on one man, far from it, Warrington for example are offloading players who are not good enough for them, They will get other Super league clubs, but it shows that Wolves have a couple of poor seasons and they do something about it, There is no sentimentality involved, they are not prepared to wait and see what happens, They are not prepared to spend a lot of Salary cap on players who are past it or not good enough.
Hopefully Hinchcliffe will make a big difference, but he is one man, he needs some quality around him, Just like Briers had, If we are prepared to just plod on with the same players in the majority of positions we will just get the same results, except the crowds will go down further still.

DG, the only thing I find frightening about the Catalans is the number of overseas players they have/are bringing in.This flies in the face of the ESL rules and does little to develop the game in France ie the development of the juniors.I believe that the Super League should be limited to two overseas players only and be strictly enforced.

I dont disagree with that but we will be playing the team with those players in it i mentioned not some imaginary team with two imports.
There are also a number of other french players now playing in Australia and England because as tthey get better some of them move onn.
That is why i would like to see a second French team in SL
