| Anyone whose seen my posts on here will know I'm a supporter of Scott Grix and what he brings to team and our defence. However, I'm always a believer that whoever has the shirt, owns it and it's then theirs to lose.
Simpson has it and it was a tremendous debut. His positional play needs to improve and he wasn't fully tested under the high ball (there was little pressure on him) but he did everything that could have been expected and more. He should play next week.

Genuine question.
On returning the ball did Simpson wait for his wingers and pass to them or run it back straight and hard?'"
Simpson ran it back.
Those saying he is skinny, well i didnt see him get dragged back like grix does...
as for the defensive side of things??? didnt see him miss many tackles either. infact he made a great tackle which stopped a break through... again one i doubt grix could have got too as hes too slow.
could grix have scored the try he did? no.
but they both have there pluses as players... would love to see simpson again and to be honest why shouldnt he be given another go after a mom performance. Just got to manage him properly, at least we now know we have a guy who can step in any time.
ive seen him play in the academy years ago and doesnt seem to have put much size on since then but that didnt stop brett hodgson

It's not always about size is it. Steve Prescott wasn't a big lad, but he had tremendous commitment , not much got past him , One on one he was as good as anyone I have ever seen in Super league.

| Quote: TBC "If he ends up being half as tough and with half the class of Brett Hodgson he'll go a long way.
Superb debut.
Backing it up will be the next test and I'm sure the coaching staff will pick the right moment to put him on the pitch again. They sure picked the right moment to debut him. Well done PA and your coaching team.'" Totally agree TBC,I would be torn between playing him against Wire or holding him back a bit or even playing him on the bench. The one thing these kids do not lack is self confidence which can too easily be brought down to earth with a hell of a bang.I have no doubt Smithy will have done his work on Jared.By the way what a constructive thread this is.

| All I urge from fans is patience. Do not expect him to play every week at this stage of his development.

| True enough Stella - more than one game a season would be nice and especially if the player ahead of him is lacking form

| Went to the game hoping that Jared would be playing fb and really glad to see him picked. Always very keen to see our youngsters make the step up and what a game he had - that try on debut was a beauty. Don't expect to see him play every week but I would pick him again for the Wire game. Main reason is that a good coach whilst needing to build a young players development carefully and gradually will also recognise that with a mom performance he deserves another go at the highest level even with Grix available. If you are good enough then you are old enough within reason again without expecting to see him claim a regular place just yet. What a prospect though - well played Jared - and hoping to see you in the famous C&G for many years to come.

| Two years ago, we played JC at Full Back against Warrington in the play-offs and yes, he was good, he got a try and we nearly won, but had Scott Grix been playing, we would have won. In these game, we have fine margins and that fine margin can be someone experienced who can return the ball and contribute to attack solidly and unspectacularly, but knows the systems we play and has experience with the back line and the halves.
I know it's not popular, but my money is for Scott Grix at full back next week. I'll happily take any criticism for having this opinion, it's just mine and I'm putting it out there. He's not our full back for the next 5 years, just for the next 5 days. Sometimes, you have to make tough calls like telling a 19 year old he needs to sit this one out, but let him know he'll be a Fartown Full Back soon and if he works hard, he can be an absolute Giant (pardon the pun) of the club.

| I would say Grix has played well this season. He has cut down on the silly mistakes and is playing solid if unspectacular rugby.

| The thing with Grix is he rarely has a standout game, he's solid most games without appearing briliant but every mistake he makes the crowd is on his back straight away and his head goes down and that's his game done. When he's solid and doesn't make big howlers he's absolutely fine. He's probably had a few 'good' games but non one tends to notice what he does unless it's the bad things !!.
Personally i thought Jared was a breathe of fresh air and a joy to watch, there was a sense of anticipation akin to when Paul Reilly was no1 when he got the ball - we don't have that with Grix just safety and steadiness.
With these 2 plus Jake Connor, who also has looked great at fullback when he's played there, there is definitely enough competiton to give Baloo headaches.
If it was a vote i'd keep Jared in as his confidence must be through the roof after that debut !.

| I've got an idea to solve all the arguments why don't we just pay off Scott Grix's contract and anyone other than him can have a go at playing fullback. Better still Jaryd Hayne will be available soon when he fails in the NFL. We could make him our marquis signing ?

| How he recovers from the Wigan game will play it's part. Super League is far tougher than the 19's.
Two SL games against top teams in seven days may be a step too far at this point.
I'm sure the coaching team will consider all the facts and decide accordingly.

| We were all singing the praises of Connor a few weeks ago, the last few have seen quite a few negative comments about him. SL is a faster game than U19, and the training will be harder- that could explain Connors downturn. Simpson hasn't even been training with the squad so let's not get too far ahead with him.....
