| Quote: AntonyGiant "I'll miss them both.
Wood is highly underrated I feel, to our fans included.
Johnson is young and provided the fire and biff.
Our squad is getting smaller.. Here's hoping any deals we have in line don't fall through. I'm hoping for some positive news soon.'"
Agreed liked them both. You could never fault their effort. Thewlis playing the old 'we offered him a good wage for a young lad' card, I hate that line, because it suggests that he's not offering players what they are worth because of their age. Same as the Connor situation

| Quote: the stella kid "Of course the recruitment policy is down to the coach. Do you really think an experienced coach like Anderson would put up with not having full say on the comings and goings at the club. Likewise Stone is having a full say and clearly doesn't like the players previously signed and so is been allowed to sort his own players.
The role of Thewlis will be tying the players down and sorting out contracts. Obviously the coaches will have to work to certain financial and salary cap constraints but no coach would stay in a job were player recruitment was not decided by himself.
If Thewlis was in charge of who we signed then why are we trying to offload the three Bradford players.
The fact Johnson turned down his contract offer last season makes sense now as to why Mason was picked over him in the second half of last season.'"
Now you know that this just doesn't fit with the conspiracy theories that some love to tout. After all it's much more likely that smith, sharp, brown, Anderson and stone, with all their experience, have allowed thewlis to dictate who is on the squad - and been so pleased about him doing so that all prior to stone have signed contract extensions in their time at hudds.

| Quote: simonsays "Squad getting smaller, Thewlis spinning same old lies about contract offers. Notice we never hear the Players version.!! He is making way for his remaining Bulls Crocks, as no takers. The Club will Not move forward until the Recruitment responsibility is down to the COACH.'"
The club has moved forward no end since I started watching them in the old 3rd division. Even going back to our early years in SL we have moved a million miles away from where we were. We had a bad season in 2016 but the previous seasons have heralded top four finishers, Minor Premier Shield winners, Semi Final playoffs, Challenge Cup Semi finals and Challenge Cup final appearances. I'd say we've moved on quite well over the years and one bad season isn't going to change my mind.
Do you really believe that the the coach gets no say so on player recruitment too? If that was the case we'd be struggling to get a respectable coach to come in. Some of the stuff posted on here is laughable. The squad is getting smaller as we've not announced any new signings yet, I'd rather the club kept future signings and targets close to their chest to keep away other clubs from gazumping potential signings. You'd have to be stupid to think that we won't replace some of the players being moved on and for what it's worth I'd rather have a smaller squad of high earning superstars than a massive squad of average players. We've got some good young talent who can come into the fold in the case of injuries so it doesn't bother me if we don't replace all outgoing players. Also the seasons over 3 months away so there's nothing to worry about.

If we keep Gaskell we are still 4 players short in my eyes
Fullback - Hardaker ?
Wing - Mamo?
Hooker -
Prop - Starting prop not a back up
I'd love Stone to offload Ellis personally'"
If Ellis is going to stay , he needs to lose a couple of stone and find a bit of pace off the mark, he might well make a half decent Hooker, What he isn't is a halfback and never has been. Out of him and Wood I would have kept Wood because he was in shape, but that's just an opinion.

| Mediocre player at best, loves giving needless penalties away.

| He's a solid enough player-the fact that you can't remember him says it all

| He's still very raw and young for a prop. But imo he will be a solid sl player in the next couple of years.

| Thanks for the replies, someone has mentioned on our board the press could be getting mixed up and it's Rovers, would make more sense as would be 5/6th prop at Hull.

He may well make a solid S league player in a few years, But to be honest that is the main problem with our game IMO, The whole game is strewn with solid players, with the odd higher level player here and there, The England squad is made up of these higher level players from the different clubs, and then we take on the Aussies and we see what players are like a level or two higher, We really do have to set our sights higher at every level, Not having a go you understand just giving an observation.

Completely agree with your comment. I wish we could find those players for our team. I wouldn't say Johnson was any worse a forward that Johnson/Fergie even at such a young age. Still has lots of time to develop.
