| paul whatuira - very classy player ! great defence and footwork, brought over to replace the space left by chris nero and did a great job for us... when on top form was one of the best centres in super league!
thanks for the service phats and all the best back in oz
think we knew he was leaving this season anyway and we have cudjoe and lawrence to replace now.

| Quality player on his day, good luck for the future and i hope he gets a contract with an nrl club. shame this wasn't announced last night so we could give him a good send off but with him apparently being very quiet probably didn't want any fuss.
This will give us some space on the salary cap so hopefully we get a winger or prop in for rest of season.

| as an opposition player, always one that worried me, hope he gets himself all sorted out back home.
He was also my favorite kiwi international to watch during the haka. Fucking brilliant during that.

| Great player on his day and I wish him all the best. That first season he arrived he was fantastic and one of the best centres we have ever had at the giants. however due to his personal problems last season and this barring the odd performance he has been a shadow of that season. Sad to see him go and honestly do wish him well but from a playing perspective we needed a change for sure.

| Quote: I have spoken to a couple of clubs who are keen to talk, which we will be doing over the next week or two, " Paul Whatuira, a premiership winner with Penrith and the Wests Tigers whose career was thrown into turmoil when he was diagnosed with depression, is edging towards an inspirational return to the NRL.
Whatuira's manager, Sam Ayoub, yesterday confirmed he was in talks with two clubs, including one that was ready to hand him a lifeline for the remainder of this year.
"I have spoken to a couple of clubs who are keen to talk, which we will be doing over the next week or two," Ayoub said.
Whatuira left Australia at the end of 2007 to play in the English Super League with Huddersfield.
During his stint with the Giants, which came to an end last month, Whatuira spent 13 days in a secure mental unit in Bradford after an unprovoked assault on two men.
He escaped conviction when he was deemed mentally ill.
During a series of interviews with English and New Zealand newspapers earlier this year, Whatuira explained his battle with depression, nerves and anxiety.
He revealed his problems stemmed from being assaulted by a family friend as a six-year-old.
