| Giants mainly young guns won 16-14, very impressed with Matty English.
Adam O'Brien started steadily but started to impose himself after 20 mins or so with some scoots from dummy half and one good break up the middle.
Ollie Roberts was a handful and took some stopping.
Giants again on wrong side of penalty count mainly offside....though on that score the ref was very lax and both sides were well offside most of the game.

| Think Matty English is the best forward (Prop) we have ever had at that age. Think he may get a couple of Super League appearances this year but will play mainly at Oldham and will probably break into the first team properly next year.
I think English has surpassed Tyler Dickinson already and probably Daniel Smith.
Can't really see him Tyler getting many SL games this year at all again.
From that showing today I think only Ollie Roberts & Mason will play against Warrington and maybe O'Brien and Matty English
Smith, Dickinson, Ormsby, McIntosh & Wood I feel will be some way off getting in the starting 17 to play Widnes.

Would be nice to see him get a run there until Mamo is fit... We have a few options (Murph, Gaskell) but no specific fullback. Sounds like he's worked really hard in off/pre season. So will definitely be close to that starting FB spot.

Gaskell is playing FB v Warrington and Stone said in a interview that he will most likely be playing FB against Widnes.

Agree on that though McIntosh didn't do anything wrong I don't think, and is the one out of those you mention I would consider.
The game will have done all the young lads good and hopefully help in their development, and they got the win!

| Really good to hear about English. I liked the look of him against Bradford. Hope he gets his chance and if he warrants his place he keeps it!

| English was good, the other standouts were McIntosh, Wood and Kirkby I thought. Good tough test for the guys and we have some good options amongst the young guys so hope some get a go during the season. If RS did need/want to put one or two of the 4 mentioned in the 17 I would hope that they would show up well. Also Dickinson had some good drives.
Out of the more recognised senior players yesterday Ollie looks class, Mason went OK. Ormsby looks very ordinary from what I have seen so far this year?
Will be very interesting to see how we measure up against Wire on Wed and who plays where. Good signs so far as to an attitude change within the squad and seems from all the comments from coaches and players that we know we need to start the season well.

| Interesting piece in League Express today:
"Historically Giants have never been renowned for developing their own players. It is however a misconception. Former World XIII member Jermaine McGillvary is a product of the Giants academy system, while Leroy Cudjoe and Michael Lawrence, two of the club's most reliable stars over a number of years, we're also developed at the Giants. Kruise Leeming and Nathan Mason are the most recent success stories, and on the evidence of this game many more young stars could soon be added to the list of players who have emerged in the first team. A handful of the club's senior players namely Oliver Roberts and Adam O'brien led the way but others such as Matt English, Sam Wood and Jon Luke Kirkby all showcased great qualities."
Just as posters have seen for themselves then.

| Sam Wood and Darnell Mcintosh was always going to play at Warrington. That's the reason they was brought off with 15/20 mins to go.
I would much rather see wood and Mcintosh get a go than play ormsby. I'm not his biggest fan.
Matty English was fantastic and with him and Jon Luke Kirby we have 2 very good props on our hands.
I thought the young half in Farrell was excellent and looks to have a good kicking game.
