| So we've finally announced it, welcome to the Giants Ellis
Looking forward to seeing him play, where would you play him? No.7 alongside Broughy?

| Will see how he goes 1st but it does give us more options now.
I'd have him at 7 yes, allowing Robbo to go back to being an impact hooker - his best role IMO.
welcome aboard Jamie !

| Welcome to the Giants, Jamie!!
I fully agree with Giant Daz, give him a go at 7 and Robbo to make an impact off the bench at hooker - I think this would give Robbo a new lease of life after a tough season. Assuming no one is leaving this gives us some good cover in these areas with Wood and Bailey also options.

| Lunt and Robbo to be a great duo at hooker..
Brough to partner either Wood or Ellis.
Wood complimented Brough pretty well and it went downwards after his injury. It'll be interesting to see how things roll next season.

| He's a decent player when he takes charge. If he plays second fiddle, he is useless. I am interested to see how he will get on because I can't see him being the go too guy. I wish him well and he has improved under Powell however he lacks consistency and he has the body of a forward (does that hold him back? Who knows)

| I think I said pre-season that you were severely lacking without proper cover for Lunt, which was proved correct. Robinson is far better at that now, than as a scrum half, which should solve that for next year. Ellis is twice the player he was, but I don't see him as a scrum half, neither Wood. You need a class 6 or 7 to go with Brough to be successful.

| Welcome Ellis! certainly going to provide more options next season
would like to see him get a crack to partner brough, when i have seen ellis play it seems he has a good kicking game and i think this is why we have brought him in, to take some pressure off brough in that department.
also would like to see robinson interchange with lunt at hooker, we also have wood that will have a say in all of this, provides competition for places so seems like a good signing!
ellis does look abit chubby round the belly, but we are renowned at getting players fit and improving them so see no problem here, he is only 24 too! didnt realise this, only been given a 2 yr deal which should also keep him on his toes, we sometimes give out long term deals like to huby.
looking forward, we are going to lose robinson, lunt and crabtree at the end of next season i think so you can see the club is looking ahead with the signings they are making...whether they are an improvement is another question all together... one more season of a settled side then is rebuilding time, hope we can take advantage but think our chance could have passed.

| I haven't been as uninterested in a signing since we signed Ryan Clayton.. This is the type of signing I would have imagined us to make 6 years ago maybe. I'm not going to slate the guy too much before he's even put on a jersey but do you think any of the other teams in top 6 (barring us and Castleford) would have him in their team? Step backwards in my opinion and lack of ambition. If we've signed him because there's no one better then I would rather had a season of Connor playing alongside Brough. I hope I'm proved wrong.

| Don't forget....we can't afford to make the signings most of the other top 6 make, we simply haven't got the money or crowds to do so.....also, the Mason saga will have took a huge chunk out of our finances too !
Don't think it's lack of ambition, more lack of cash !

I can totally appreciate what your saying and agree in part. Although you have to look at the chance you take on youth or quality import or work in progress signings.
So for us I think Connor is certain giant star in the making, either at FB or as a play maker he should make the grade, however nothing is set in stone. Long term I would say he is the plan for us. However a few good perfomances in the first squad doesn't mean he will kick on for certain.
You can buy quality players if you have the cash. Do they always work out? Jamie Simpson was scoring trys for fun in the NRL over here....poor doesn't cover it. Briscoe at Hull FC was a standout at a good player but not as noticeable. Saying that look at Bowden at Wigan, quality.
You can buy average players from sides and class them as a work in progress player or offer them a new start. Once apon a time we had robbo and brown in the halves and we was winning games and looking a decent side. NB signed Danny Brough, I questioned why we needed another halve who I never really noticed from a side that wasn't exactly setting the league on fire......well we all know how much humble pie I had to eat.
All I am saying is that nothing is certain with any method of recruitment but to say its a step backwards is a tad unfair as it worked with signing brough so who knows. In Anderson we trust.

| Any one know how Kruise leeming is progressing.?
What's his season been like post injury?
Liked what I saw with him - and talked to him a few times when he has been doing the pr stuff, and seems like a decent lad too.

I get your point but DB certainly wasn't one of those signings. Yes he would have a great game and then a poor game but he had that star quality and he was a match winner, he's just consistent now. Jamie Ellis isn't that or anywhere near that IMO. However I can understand your point maybe Scott Moore was like that on his 1st stint with us. Played pretty poor at castleford the year before, came to us and had a great season.
I wasn't saying I want Connor instead of Ellis but if Ellis is an average player why bother with him? Play Connor and he'll have great games and maybe terrible games but those great games are potentially more than Ellis is ever going to give you and on the bad games DB will have to carry us through, like he doesn't anyway
Personally I think we lack leadership and world class talent to compete with other teams when push comes to shove. I might get shot down here but I would have been looking for an ageing, probably Australian/New Zealander, who has been there and done it and has pure talent and can win games even though he may have lost a bit of pace or something. I'm thinking a Brad Drew or a Robbie Paul, I know they're hard to find but they're out there. They would be great at bringing through Connor and Kruise.
