We are playing as bad as we were under the last few of Nathan's Brown's reign...the team look like it did then, no fight, heart, spirit....confidence, we seriously need a win just to give the confidence levels a mighty boost.

Looks a bit like Anderson's game plan has been found out, or he has lost the players. Either way, not good.

None of the player look a shade on what they were last season. Whats gone wrong?

IMO confidence, simply - last year we were playing poorly but still winning at times cos the players believed they could win, this year it's shot to pieces it seems.

Quote: GIANT DAZ "IMO confidence, simply - last year we were playing poorly but still winning at times cos the players believed they could win, this year it's shot to pieces it seems.'"

Bingo.

As Paul Cullen said before the game "Play to the system and the league takes care of itself". At the moment the players aren't playing to the system. They are trying to win games individually instead of playing as a unit. That's a confidence problem. The Bradford game won't help because Bradford were so poor that we could play badly and still beat them.

Players are trying to make plays in attack and defence rather than let the plays make themselves. So we get sdilly offloads that don't go to hand because they aren't expected. Players stood in defence watching players run past them because no one is reading the play.

The incident with Wardle for the Hull 2nd try is a perfect example. He should've let the ball go into touch and had confidence that his team could hold out for 6 tackles. Instead he throws it infield in the hope that he can regather because in the back of his mind he fears another Hull set will produce a try.

It's like the year we lost 7 on the trot under Sharp the players need to get back to simple ugly things and stop trying to get the miracle pass out all the time.

Very disapointed by Huddersfield last night it seems to me there are some individual issues that need sorting before you get going. Some of the effort on show was not what you'd expect of the current Shield holders.

Not watched it back yet but on first impressions I would think you'll lose a couple more to the disaplinary too.

That left edge needs sorting until Ferres gets back because they were woeful and im sure with other coaches watching you can expect a lot of traffic down that side.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

I for one are glad you let Carvell go, he has been like that every time he has played for us this season.

I think you need to look at our Dream Teamers from last year to see the issue:

Cudjoe - has looked tired since before the Play-Offs and continued to do so at the World Cup and this season. Injury will be blessing in disguise
Lunt - Injured most of season and clearly not match fit yet
Brough - out of form. Class is perm, form is temp. He'll be back before long bit Baloo needs to have a serious word with him about his attitude. He needs to set the example and when he loses his head is in any wonder those around him do to.
Eorl - has looked short of confidence. I wonder if the World Cup set back has hurt him more than was expected.
Ferres - again looked tired this season. Let us down hugely with the Red and deserved his ban. Hopefully will come back fitter and better.

When your best 5 players from last season underperform, you're in the sh*t. Baloo and Purtill need to sort it and quickly.

I'm sure your right and as you say it's down to the backroom staff to find out why and sort it out.

spot on...

but maybe we are pacing ourselves for the run in...

anderson says we have 'fallen in love with ourselves' and time to get back to the hard work that got us to where we were last season

I recorded the Saints game and watched back the interview with Danny before the game and he said something about the unity of the team last year and they need to get that back which could point to the attutude problems that Anderson refers to.

I'm still of the belief we're a good side going through a tough period as we've gone through an experience (winning something) that the club and many of the team aren't used to and that has consequences in regards dealing with that mentally (realising the need to work even harder and not thinking we've already done the hard work) and with the new set of expectations. We'll get there and, for the first time, maybe we'll come good at the right time of the season.

the way i see it.
we seem to lack confidence in each other as a team at the moment, as has been alluded to, we need to start from scratch and get the basics right that won us the LLS, tackling, passing, teamwork, self belief.
how many times have we tried to score on every set rather than just working some field position and possesion? how many times do we make elementary mistakes in our own third?
even at 8-0 down last night with 3/4 of the game to go we looked like we were trying to score all the time, forcing passes which weren't on, rather than just trying to work ourselves into the game and forcing hull back?

to be fair we looked very tired from the off last night, which was to be expected, but we seemed to lose concentration and confidence very early in the game which led to us been 20-0 down. last year we would have just worked hard to get back into a game like that, this year we seem to just totally collapse.

I thought we tried against Hull. However with the short turn around, our players looked exhausted from the off. Hull turned up to win this game and to take out there CC loss on us. They played very well and would of been hard to beat with a full weeks turn around.

We seem confident at the start of a game but after having everything go our way last season, if we get a bad decision against us or somebody winds us up we get a huge strop on. Broughy as the main culprit can't afford to do that as our captain because if effects the whole team.

I believe we aren't going full on this season and if we can turn it around then we'll be okay come playoffs.

having watched the game back on sky+ it wasn't as bad as i thought it was at the match.
for the first 20 minutes we were blown away, a combination of hull starting the match very very well, silly mistakes from us and we really did seem knackered, but after that we did ok i thought, just basic errors and wrong decisions.
had we not had a bad start like we did which knocked the confidence we could have been right in the game.

chan was immense for us,even more so when i watch it back.
