Quote: Alan Cargill "The problem with the reserve system as far as i have been made aware is everyone has to be contracted, with a minimum of 20 players and 4 backroom staff it will mean A) finding the money and B) agreeing contracts with them. Some of the better Academy lads could be offered a better deal to sign for another club's reserves.
All the current academy players will have to be offered paid contracts rather than Academy/Scholarship deals and it could mean they will be lost to the game if they feel it isn't financially viable for them.
The reserve system is ok for the rich clubs or clubs who already operate a reserve side but for others it's a massive financial risk, unless they can get a central deal supported by the governing body but they don't seem to understand the financial implications it could have to run a mandatory side.
Time will tell i guess.'"
Our academy is already full time professional. Backroom staff will double up. Academy will step up sooner -as will scholars- some of whom have only played in a competitive game once this season.
The biggest problem is going to be for championship sides- who will no longer get players on loan. Teams like Fev have relied on those.
It makes absolute sense to run a reserve side.
