Rochdale Hornets have been called that since 1871! Not from when Sky/Murdoch came along and disneyfied the game.

Dear Crackerjack,
I think the specialist fella might be more busier than you think. There seems to be many suitable cases for treatment out there given that some people seem to be easily impressed with names like Giants, Bulls, Vikings... etc. Also you are right about Hull 'Sharks'. Anyhow, someone needs to explain to me that if disneyfying club names is such a good thing. How come none of EPL teams have done it yet?

Dear Sgnt Bilko,
I understand that Huddersfield is the spiritual home of R.L. The George Hotel, 1895, The Northern Union etc.. Where does the word 'Giants' fit into that great tradition? I agree with you Fartown would be a better suffix. It is not unknown to suffix a district onto the town/city name Hull KR, Preston NE, Plymouth Argyle, Bradford Northern!!, Liverpool Stanley (a district of Liverpool, later to become City).

I have a lot of sympathy for your views on this subject, i am not a great lover of the modern names myself. I think the Cougars may have been the start of it all, and to be fair it has not all been bad.
Bradford made a huge success of it, and the whole summer thing for a long time before they got into trouble, It also seems to work very well for Leeds, The Rhino's and the Bulls both slip very easily of the tongue.
Regards Huddersfield, I think it was the fans choice from one or two possibles if i remember, and in any case such is the regard for Mr Davy among the Fans that i think if he wanted to call them the Honeybee's or the Hobo's or indeed any other name it would be acceptable.
Many still refer to them as Fartown and i'm sure a lot of that is down to habit and length of time watching them. You know the old saying about "he who pays the piper " I'm happy with that, i reckon he has earned the right to call them what he wants.
