Quote: the stella kid "It was obvious that Leigh had a plan to move the ball early and target the Giants right side defence. This was were all the first four tries were scored. Now the stupid mistakes did not help as Leigh were gifted possession. However what did the coach do to address the issue. Why not either drag another man over or maybe even swap centres or wingers as clearly there was a major issue in a part of our defencive line that has been a problem in the past. The Leigh game plan was simple but massively effective.
The four defenders on that side Ellis,Taai,Cudjoe and Mcgilivary had to make a total of 108 tackles in the game. The four defenders on the other side Brough,Lawrence,Wardle and Murphy had to make 43. The tactics were so obvious so why did we deal so badly with it. What then compounds the problem is we have a fullback who cannot read play with no pace and no reaction speed. He should have been across helping and added to that his efforts for the Patterson and Brown tries were woeful. I think we have to look at other options at fullback for the next two games.
Finally why did Connor do a large amount of kicking in the game. Does this suggest they are covering up for the fact Brough is not fully fit which if true is a major concern for the next two games.'"
The problems started when Ellis just stood there and didn't want to take responsibility to catch that deep kick off.
As a team badly at fault for the first try.Leigh loaded 8 men onto their left edge, against just 6 of ours, one of those 6 being our FB covering across. Our markers and the 3rd man in the previous tackle didn't react to the danger just sauntered over never getting involved in the play.It was a well executed move by Ley,our inside defenders got sucked into the decoys so Cudjoe and McGillvary were facing 5 players coming at them, they had no chance.
Who was at fault for this, coach,fb not numbering up,markers and 3rd man in tackle not reacting, take your pick.
Leigh put the same play in about the 34th minute, but the message had gone out,the inside cover were there in a flash including the left edge 2nd rower who had moved across.Closed down the play this time, but all too late in the day.
Need to give Ley some credit for their structures, the second try when the prop came around the back of the ruck would have been hard for most teams to defend.
