Day to day just means there is no specific length of time on the injury. It's short term but is just a matter of waiting. Rather than a long term injury which has a definate healing schedule. It's an expression common in American sports and my own wording paraphrasing what was in the Examiner article which said he was improving.
Anyway the Examiner were wrong cos he ain't in the 19 and neither is Leeming.
