I bet Trent Barrett would have a different view on whether NB shied away from confrontation or not.

I'm not advocating the slap-in-the-face approach, but it doesn't indicate someone who doesn't 'do' confrontation.

So he's taken a side from 10th (or apart from 2007) a bottom half of the league side, to regular top 4 side, even this year with him in charge you would more than likely have finished in the top 6.

WHAT A DISASTER

Each coach has their part to play in building up a team. Saints didn't just suddenly have a fabulous team that won everything in 2006. We had a few coaches before Daniel Anderson who had recruited well and grown the team both in terms of its spine and its ethos. While Hudds have yet to reach the winning finals stage they are almost there and I think you have Brown to thank for that, with the work of Sharp in preparation before him.

I have my doubts about Brown coming to Saints but I don't have doubts that he has been good for Hudds. Maybe he stayed a season too long, but only a season.

Funnily enough: a blast from the past: After 7 consecutive losses they found themselves marooned at the foot of the table, 5 points adrift, but ironically with the second best defence in the league. Large sections of the fans began to question the coach's ability and as a result crowds began to dwindle and morale was beginning to suffer.

3rd, 5th and 4th finishes have not been accomplished by the Giants in 40 or 50 years? Very impressive when several clubs are full cap and a couple 'over the cap'.

NB did have some very good fortune:

Giants had a decent underperforming squad in 08.

A few good young players were emerging.

Lunt joined as an 'unknown'

Moore was a risky signing come good.

NB did improve many technical aspects of our game AND had the very good sense to bring Bumper.

outsiders don't realise that some of the young talent signed by the club like Patrick and Wardle and Eden had stuff all to do with NB.

In the end the gifted prodigy is unable to resist too much tinkering, having favourites and lacks some inner steel. He will produce teams that are often good to watch but struggle to win silverware.

To even describe his tenure as a 'disaster' is ridiculous and is frankly laughable.

A gifted assistant can do quite well, look at Saints this year, from 9th to top 4. With some gifted assistants.

If he can get Saints playing stuff that is good to watch, then the rest of the club will be able to get him home the rest of the way.

He's moving into a machine, in a way his job is to tinker with the machine. If he can migrate us up a couple of notches then that's what we need. Brown and Maguire where spoken of in the same breath in terms of defence and we need that. He can also bring on younger players especially backlines, great that is where we are weakest.

Our pack match it up every week and Cunningham will still have a hand in that.

I'm not after year on year GF wins (I'll take em, but I think dynasty's like that do not happen very often).

But if in his 3 years with us, if he can pick up 2 pieces of silverware then that will be a good result. If he picks up one. Then I think he will get a par rating from fans, anything less than that he will start to fall into a Potter, Simmons type coach rating.

I love all the Saints fans coming on here and defending NB. Boy are they worried and trying to fortify their courage for next year.
