Saints coach Mick Potter opted to play the Giants, who finished fifth in the table, rather than League leaders Wigan after a quick straw poll of his players, leaving the Warriors to face defending champions Leeds in the other semi-final on Saturday evening.
St Helens inherited the choice of Club Call after Wigan slipped up at home to Leeds in the opening round of play-offs, much to the disappointment of Cunningham.
"There’s mixed emotions," he said. "We were hoping Wigan would beat Leeds.
