Quote: " BROWN URGES GIANTS TO RISE TO THE OCCASION

Huddersfield coach Nathan Brown believes the Giants have the momentum they need to take them all the way to the Engage Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford on Saturday October 2.

Seven magnificent wins have taken Huddersfield to within 80 minutes of a first Grand Final appearance since 1962 and Brown’s team are bubbling with confidence ahead of Friday night’s Engage Super League Qualifying Semi-final on Friday night (8.00).

Huddersfield earned their spot in the semi-finals with a rousing victory over Warrington Wolves and Brown is hoping his side can upset the odds for a second week running when they take to the pitch for the last ever competitive game at GPW Recruitment Stadium.

“We’ve had a good run so far,” said Brown. “St Helens are obviously a quality team, but we’ll be going there very hopeful of getting the right result and putting a good performance in on the day.

“We’d like to go out there and give it our best shot. We played well last week and if we make sure our effort and our execution is good again this week, then we’ll see where that takes us.”

Brown is acutely aware that Huddersfield, who ended the regular season in fifth position, face a daunting task as they bid to become the first team from outside the top four to make it to an Engage Super League Grand Final.

“When you play and you win and come through games fully fit then you do take momentum with you,” said Brown. “So playing is definitely better than not playing and in hindsight it is probably to our advantage going into the game as St Helens have had a week off.

“But they’re a good Rugby League team, they play hard, fast rugby and they’ll try and do the things they do well against us, but we’ll try and do the things that we do well and hopefully we’ll get the result we want '"

[sizeSt Helens captain Cunningham fears Huddersfield Giants' Club Call motivation [/size

Saints coach Mick Potter opted to play the Giants, who finished fifth in the table, rather than League leaders Wigan after a quick straw poll of his players, leaving the Warriors to face defending champions Leeds in the other semi-final on Saturday evening.

St Helens inherited the choice of Club Call after Wigan slipped up at home to Leeds in the opening round of play-offs, much to the disappointment of Cunningham.

"There’s mixed emotions," he said. "We were hoping Wigan would beat Leeds.

"It was in the back of our minds that we would get the pick if we won our game against Warrington and Wigan lost.

"I’m not a big fan of the system. I think there are a lot of flaws in it.

"Who needs any more motivation than a side being picked by their opponents?

"You don’t need to do that. But we have all these innovations in rugby league."
