| Quote Harold Rigby Jnr="Harold Rigby Jnr"So if I am reading this correctly, you no longer support Leigh RLFC due to its current custodian? I assume from that then you no longer come and watch the team or support the boys in the shirt ?
Whilst I respect your view, it is also a 2 way street. I would be inclined to understand what you felt when say.
Paul Rowley, substantiated the Toronto job rumours and walked out on his contract , 7 days before the season was about to commence leaving the club and team without a coach. Or say,
Ryan Brierley engineering a move away whilst contracted to the club, at a time when he was it's only recognised fit half back, forcing Ridyard to play with broken ribs, or when,
Bob Beswick, who Derek agreed could move to Wigan for sentimental reasons in return for a nominal transfer fee, declared himself unavailable for team selection the remainder of his 12 month contract due to injury, when Wigan refused to pay the fee, (unlike Derek, who paid Warrington to bring young Highams home) Or when,
Jake Emmit who pleaded for a release from his Leigh contract for a once in a lifetime experience to travel the world, which Derek agreed to, only for him to subsequently sign for Toronto.
I could go back through the lengths of time, but it's Leigh RL I support, the boys on the field, not Derek, not who is on the board, not Jack Hilton, Not Brian Beaumont, but the boys wearing the shirt of Leigh RLFC at 3pm on any given Sunday.'"
Harold you're quite right, at this moment in time I no longer support the club as I can't separate the owner from the club and nothing in this world would allow me to support a man who caused so much damage to so many people, who went out of his way to destroy the reputations and mental health of his ex employees. Sport isn't THAT important to me I'm afraid. I'll always be a Leigh supporter, I'm just not a fan at the moment.

| Quote GUBRATS="GUBRATS"Leigh RL are only ever going to be sustainable with 6/7,000 + attendances , in fact it is 10K if the truth to be told
So the question is , how do you get to that level of support ?'"
Well, to answer that question, our last SL season achieved an average circa 6,700 across all SL & Q8's fixtures so not far off 7K, approx 1,300 to 1,400 behind Catalans & bettering 4 established SL Clubs, all this despite finishing 11th.& having a terrible season end.
I would say that an 8k to 9k average is not inconceivable if the Club had even a mediocre sustained presence in SL, something akin to that of Wakefield I think would achieve that if the marketing was much improved. Success however relative brings in the crowds, a good Leigh team can achieve a higher average season attendance than Salford, Wakey, Widnes & Huddersfield if the Club is run professionally of that I have no doubt.

Fair enough Mish, it is a shame a fellow Leigh supporter feels this way right now, but I appreciate it is your view and you are entitled to it.

H, I will continue to support the club as many will. But we now have an owner not willing to support in his words an "untenable" position. Yet he is still willing to take a back seat and not spend a penny now.
How can Leigh survive this one? Without any financial backing? Short term fixes are a proven point. What's on the cards for long term yet again!

Why is it always necessary that any owner is obligated to inject cash into a club ?
Yes I agree that we rarely see any long term plans which is very frustrating , buts that's unfortunately where we are
What long term actions would you like to see ? , and with what aim ?

I’m not sure that the owner is a back seat kinda guy to be honest - what he says and what he does may not necessarily equate to the same thing

The fact i’ll be imputing more than the owner (as will all) doesn’t shine with me.
Stability could have been created, yet glory came first or maybe egos with the wrong clientele.
We are back to square one again. I’m just frustrated Starbug.

The fact still remains Col. He wanted/wants out. Back seat isn’t a position an owner should be taking at present in a scenario he was part of.
Do you seriously think he will invest again should Leigh become viable again?
My personal opinion is good riddance. Thanks for the glory, but the club needs to move forward again and no place for back seat drivers.

| As I was once told, opinions are like s and we all have one. We even have fans thinking that local wealthy individuals are queuing up to throw there hard earned in so that "fans" can abuse them when it goes wrong. Derek still owns the club and most owners take a back seat, especially when deciding to go again or not once TW are out of the way. All we can do as fans is buy tickets to show DB or the next owner that we have the fan base to support ambition

May have had enough initially, certainly don’t believe he does want out now. As I say, I don’t believe for one minute he’s taken a back seat now he’s got a bit of his mojo back
At the moment Toronto should p1$$ the league and get promotion - why throw big money into the pot for pretty much no return
Do I think lessons have been learned ?? Not really convinced to be honest, it worries me he will go poop or bust again - but deffo think he will invest heavily again
In theory the club should be relatively self sustainable at top 4 level in champ with sponsors/fan base/ lottery/LISA etc - reckon his plan is to push once it’s more of an open market, no reason why anyone other than Toronto are beyond us at this level

| I think db won't take a back seat because it's not in his nature,I think he's just looked at the spending power of Toronto and thought there's no way it's worth putting the money that's needed to even compete with them so let's be competitive this year and challenge for the top 5 then hopefully Toronto get promoted, then next year more money will be invested to bring in the bit of quality needed to challenge for the one promotion spot
