Quote: The Prophet "Is your only answer to go on the defensive and say how fantastic things are?? If you actually read my post I make it clear that all those who have put their hands up in the club's time of need have done a fantastic job and got us through a dire time.

My point is quite simply having achieved a degree of stability that we need to make sure we have the calibre of people involved with the club to help it set and achieve its strategic targets over the medium to long term as opposed to drifting like a ship without a rudder.

The examples you give are not where i'm coming from, Alan does a great job with the match programme and the radio coverage/Leigh Life is excellent. However being a qualified accountant doesn't mean you have any business acumen or the ability to work as part of a senior management team covering off such issues as marketing, advertising, strategy etc etc. - if we are to ever be self sufficient, investable or attractive to potential sponsors then we must tap into the fan base more to get the required level of expertise and thus my suggestion of perhaps utilising the know how within the Touchdown corporate members.'"

Have you any idea how patronising you sound when you metaphorically pat us all on the head and tell us to run along and let the grown ups take over?

No one is stopping any member of the Touchdown club from joining our group if they feel they have something to offer but I'm afraid you'd have to sit around the table with us plebs and 'talk us through' the grown up stuff.

well last years average was 2400ish, so the club have gone as low as they can. At the moment were averaging under 1800 in the league but that always picks up towards the back end.

Plus nrc v batley should attract at least 2500

If having a realistic view of where the club is at makes me patronising then so be it, maybe one day soon you'll agree with me.

The club has to be run as a viable business and volunteers can only do so much - to move forward we should start getting the right people targetted and involved instead of waiting for their approach, as per Mohammed and the mountain!

My view is no different than how the club would treat the players if we got into Super League, ie thanks for your service now we need better players than you. Way of the world i'm afraid.

So (and these are serious questions),

Will the Touchdown club be willing to cover all the bases I pointed out earlier?

Will they be doing this voluntarily?

If they are doing it voluntarily, don't they just become volunteers?

Most importantly.....

Why aren't they already doing it?

Quote: ste_ody "the sinking ship will be saved providing we get an average on 1800 minimum. The club have budgeted for the league games anything extra is a bonus. Already the fax/Leeds game must have made us a few quid.'"

The flip side being 4,000 Leigh fans turned up knowing the team would be beat.
Admitedly trying to market the Championship is difficult as the league is viewed as unattractive and ambitions cannot be realised as at the moment Promotion and Relgation doesn't happen - I'm not sure that will remain in place as the game looks to be at another crossroads.
The amount of people who live within 15-20 mins drive of Leigh is huge - its a huge area to tap into.
The club needs to be in the schools selling sport as the social benefit it is - heck we have a state of the art RL stadium second to none and yet I'd imagine the kids still hang around on corners - get the schools to buy into a community and the youngsters are the future fans, not many swop clubs down the line.

This season Leigh has been forced to turn a corner but every new initiative put in place MUST have a 5 year lifespan, way too many boom & bust ideas not given time to gell have occured at Leigh.
Lets allocate a certain type of objective to a person - if thats a volunteer fine , equally if its a professional then fine - its needs a accountable trail.
For instance if programme sales are down I would approach Alan and ask him why and then sit down and go through what we are doing wrong - what could be improved (do we sell it in Town centre shops for example, do schools, collegues get any etc, etc)*Using Alan as a example - NOT saying sales are down BTW.

I actually feel Leigh are pointing in the right direction but have a long way to go off the field but for the first time in years I actually think the club has realised its 'sat on its hands' for years and with quite a bit of on field success have achieved very little off field.
We need to make Leigh the best club in our league and the place to be on matchday - ALL parties have to pull together or back off, argueing is healthy but if it drags on it achieves nothing.

1,800 is a realistic aim now (thats getting on double what a lot of clubs get in this league), however lets use that as a minimum and start to aim high - the potential is huge , we just need to realise it.

Mish , no disrespect here , although I just know it will be taken 'personally ' , the club could quite easilly operate without any of the tasks you highlighted , without income , it wont

The O/P was , how will the club finance itself , a kids club, internet radio and a match programme wont fund the shortfall the club will have , they are all great positives , and all the work put into them is appreciated , but ultimatley we need ' income ' lots of it

I actually used the TD as an example of people with business acumen on the clubs doorstep who by definition of being corporate members clearly possess the key ingredients, ie they are fans of the club and in the main their businesses will fund their memberships.

Sometimes you have more success by asking people to get involved rather than waiting for them to put their hand up and of course they wouldn't be paid, however more difficult to say no in those circumstances!

No I don't take it personally and I understand where you're coming from, but what I don't understand is why The Prophet thinks it's either 'them or us'? Why could we all not sit around the same table, does he think he's too good for us? And why, hasn't he offered his services to help the club in their hour of need?

My my, we do have feelings of self importance don't we?

You're saying you won't help the club because you've not been asked? Get over yourself man.

No you moron it isn't about me and how I could be the saviour and you haven't got a clue what I may or may not already contribute so don't try and second guess.

If you honestly believe the PSG can take the club forward to be a self sufficient profitable entity with sponsors falling over themselves and potential investors ready to jump on board then I actually think your profile picture must be recent such is your naivety.
