| Quote: TV BOY "If I was stood in the middle of you I would have booed you. The song is a disgrace and you are a disgrace for advocating a song that has no room on the terraces of our great club. It goes hand in hand with yob culture and should be stamped out. You should be ashamed of yourself.'"
Why, exactly? Because of one expletive directed at an old rival and old enemy? Which is it that's so offensive?

| I will say this for the last time. This song IS offensive and has absolutely nothing to do with our sport or our great club. I would go as far as to say that it puts our club in a bad light. Drink fueled rubbish is all it is.

Yes, it's offensive to a terrorist group and Wiggin rugby. Sounds reet to me.
Anyroad, let's not let it detract from the original topic; what an awesome performance by the 17 lads on the field in Leigh tops, and the several hundred on the terraces. Epic.

| When the 'flute song' is sung it is heard by opposing team supporters and officials, neutral supporters and RFL officials and when on we are on TV by viewers. It shows the club in a bad light as is offensive to many, we want to attract new supporters not put them off.

| Reasd what I have put. That is the answer to your question. The expletive is and the fact that it is directed at another team is offensive and the fact the whole song has nothing to do with RL. Why dont you just sing " f@@k wigan rugby" to another tune and forget the rest of the words because thats all your really saying. The song's pathetic and the argument for it is pathetic. Oh and the people who sing it are also.

| I love being a Leigh fan sometimes. A huge, tonking win at a title rival, a fantastic atmosphere, huge support and, in case I haven't mentioned it, a tonking win, and still people moan about the bloody flute song! It's been sung for as long as I can remember, just live with it or sing summat else over the top of it!

I remember asking my Uncle the first time I went what they were singing. So you can't say that it has nothing to do with the club because it's been part of the club's culture for at least 30 years. I'd be interested to know when this was first sung.
It contains an expletive, but you hear plenty of them at rugby matches, often in chants. It's directed at two organisations which I find far, far less offensive and threatening than chants directed at the referees or players. Change the F word for another and is it still so offensive.
As you pointed out, one of the organisations targeted is a Rugby League team so to then say that the song has nothing to do with RL is a self-contradiction.
Other fans' chants are worse than this also. Referring to Leythers as inbreds in song is common and far worse than the flute song. And then the 'small town in Wigan jibe'! Horrific.

| Got to say again its not a song i like to hear because you all sound like idiots singing it really you do and the only reason the IRA is in it is because it rhymes simple so find another word that rhymes instead ,the swearing i can live with ,the Wigan part fine .Oh and just because its been sang for 30 odd years does'nt mean it cant be changed.

| The IRA bit is a bit embarassing these days.
Why are folk moaning about the 'F' word in the Flute song and yet no mention of the chant "It's nice to know your here etc.......now 'f' off" - quite clearly sung on several occasions yeterday.

| I'm surprised no one reported us to the RSPCA for finishing off the 'red red robin' song for HKR

Even when the IRA was in its pomp it was just a convenient rhyme. Now it's becoming a bit of an anachronism, but then, so what? If you choose something more relevant, more topical, then you really will risk offending people.
