I've just been looking in the Leigh rugby (comprehensive record) book and I can see that Gary Ainsworth made his Leigh début on 29th Nov 1981. However, I can't see any home fixtures for either Workington or Cardiff after this date - in fact I can't see any fixtures for Cardiff at all, either in that season or the next one. The first reference I can see to Cardiff is in the 1983/4 season when we play them at HP in the John Player Cup. |

Mish no probs , it looks like Garry Ainsworth . The reason I mentioned those teams was purely on trying to identify the kit. Back in the `80s a lot played in similar, apologies for the confusion. |

As a suggestion that may not be to far wide of the mark try looking for " Bridgend Blue Dragons " I went to that game and stayed with the Taff half of our clan that weekend .
( I was only 2 at the time though )  |

I vaguely remember a game against Widnes at HP (Which we lost 24-16 I think), and remember him scoring an 80 yarder leaving John Bassnett and Joe Lydon for dead !
As already said though, his failure to pass when clean through from a Harry Pinner pass v Saints was heartbreaking. That would have levelled it 14-14 with us well on top !
