| Quote: Harry Stottle "Are you implying that there was a previous Leigh team he did not enjoy? If it was that set of mercenaries we employed last season I agree with him.'"
There's been a couple of Leigh teams previous to the set of mercenaries he didn't enjoy.

Hence perhaps his 'sabbatical' in the Championship, next weekend?

Cats also awarded a try for a double movement too ! Just the beginning of his affection for us

| Rugby has changed a lot since super league began, The rulebook has altered every season and the referees are undoubtedly scrutinised like never before.
I honestly think that we have some very good referees unfortunately we also have a culture whereby the ref is scared to make a proper decision for fear of getting it wrong...we see things passed to the video ref for the sake of it.we see incidents put on report when the ref clearly saw what occured.
Im not sure that refs are any better now than they were when the decision of the man in the middle was the final word
One thing i do think needs examining is the fitness of some refs...the game is played at breakneck speed now but the ref should be as fit as the players.
I have seen Gareth Hewer several times and he has made errors simply due to lack of fitness (unable to properly keep up) he is not the only one.
Overall though i do agree that they do try their very best to get things right...it would certainly be a poorer game without them

We saw many decisions passed to the video ref V Salford. Can't quite recall who the video ref was. Can you?

Referees have had to be much fitter as the years have passed, it is a long time since the blazer wearing officials used to patrol the middle third of the field and guess the rest.
You have used Hewer’s lack of fitness as a reason for getting decisions wrong, I would suggest is is lack of speed rather than fitness. If a speedster on the wing gets a 10 metre start over the ref from half way, why would you expect a ref to beat him to the line and watch the try being scored?

That would be funny / entertaining to watch them try, Beat the Reff

| In the SL match at Leeds, Jim put two of our players in the sin bin for 'late shots' on McGuire! one of them was Cory Patterson, cant remember the other?
A few weeks later, Leeds were at home to Hull (Play offs I think?) when Hulls Liam Watts caught McGuire a proper late one which incensed McGuire, who chased after Watts Watts was only penalised however, I think the review panel thought the incident warranted a suspension, a couple of matches I think?
Watts had been dismissed three times that season too!! Amazingly the review Panel decided our players had no case to answer
Its these inconsistent decisions that have me thinking he is selective in his decision making which, doesn't appear to favour us

| I was thinking more about gareth blowing like a steamtrain 5 mins into a game.
Speed not essential but fitness to be able to take up correct positioning is vital
Put it this way...if i was a winger and found gareth hewer pacing up beside me....i would be seriously checking my accelerator pedal

| Having just witnessed Robert Hicks guessing his way through Catalans v Warrington (and mostly guessing wrong)....i may have to revise some of my opinions!
Because he just proved that being in the right place counts for zilch if you are seeing an alternate reality to everyone else

Presume that you're referring to the Mid8s game with Salford at LSV, Atomic. Yes, the video ref was Child that day and was flavour of the season for many on here after (quite rightly) scratching off a good few Divil scores.
A rudimentary knowledge of the rules of RL and several SkY camera angles are all that are needed to adjudicate in 80% of cases if, and its a big
[sizeIF[/size
the main official asks the right questions. The real ref star that day was the man in the middle, Campbell IIRC.
Child is not admired by this party.

Quite correct Bongser. Which leads me onto his video skills far outweigh his practical skills. As most often than not he,will send a decision to the video ref when in the middle, although not required. Something I think the RFL have finally picked up on.
Most of the SL games I've watched so far this season have seen very little of the Video ref being used. The officials actually making on field decisions backing themselves is a major improvement.
