First game was in 1967, and have been hooked since day 1. Now live in Vancouver, Canada but follow our team any way I can. “Up The Comics !”:17580.jpg

Halfway it is icon_thumb.gif
I think McDermott will be less than impressed with his halfback pair. They were very ineffective for the most part, especially in the second half.
I think Woods tried really hard today but we would have been more likely to score with Riddy at his usually position.
Overall pleased with way we competed.

All the talk of Riddy and Woods, what about Richardson he was first class, I only wish Woods would take a leaf out of his book and take the line on more, undoubtedly he has a great kicking game and his management his very good, but it becomes all to predictable especially near the opponents line when they know he will not go into a contact area.

Quote: maurice "A team on pittance with 3 backs missing play a lad on the wing who helped out in last years crisis and push the playboy superstars all the way whilst getting Fekk from the ref - proud Leyther tonight'"

It wasn't so much the penalties they were awarded, (they scored all three tries from penalties though) but the ones we weren't awarded. Why were they not pinged for holding down/interfering in the tackle, like we were?

I'm very proud of our lads too. If you'd offered me a close encounter with Toronto, two/three months ago, I'd have questioned your sanity! How many times last season, did we say that the part-time teams looked fitter than our full-time team? Well, today, some of their forwards were out on their feet in the final quarter. If you get the chance to watch it again, watch out for Ashton Simms, who put in a massive stint, telling Bodene to get involved - and watch Bodene's reaction. He'd had enough!

It was sad to see so many former Leythers sitting out the game - Beswick, Brierley, Kay, Worthington, Emmitt, Whiting - I wonder how long they will be staying there? Good to see KP at the match too - I hope he can sort something for himself soon.

As usual it was refereeing inconsistency than made the difference, we should have had loads of penalties for TWs continual interference at the PTB. Difficult when players moved out of position all gave 100% and the harsh sin binning probably decided the game. With Gregg at 1 and Pownall on wing and Riddy in the middle we could have probably won given a fair crack by the ref. Great effort from all, good contest to watch.

It was too! That's three cracking games we've seen at LSV, so far.

Onwards and upwards - LTID:

Passion and commitment, to a man they put their bodies on the line. In all honesty I never saw us winning that game, apart from a lucky try we never looked like breaking down a very well organised defence.

Expected more from TW, but we deserve an awful lot of credit for nullifying them. If we keep playing as well as that then a play off place is extremely likely.

Very proud of their efforts eusa_clap.gif

Did that first while I contemplated the game and the meaning of life. I'm probably way off with the game stuff but I know for sure that the meaning of life is 42.

As a neutral that was a good game to watch. Leigh were unlucky, they played well.

The referee did let the game flow but in doing so he missed a whole multitude of technical offences that he should have blown for. He also took us back a BIG 10 , but when we were in attack, not so far back with Toronto that made our ability to create ever more difficult.

Also, Richardson was sin binned for interference at the PTB (arguably correctly) yet when Richardson was cynically taken out late by Bodene Thompson, on a scoring opportunity a penalty deemed sufficient, despite foul play that had the potential to cause Richardson injury.

Richardson was penalised for interference, he was sin binned for dissent.
The referee wasn’t without fault, they never are, but as mentioned he let the game flow and made a positive contribution to it.
In every fan’s summing up a game there is usually, he did us for something but what about..........

My sincere apologies to Mr Grant. I must have missed the dissent at the time. A stupid mistake by the Leigh player that could have ultimately cost us an highly unlikely yet quite remarkable victory. Oh dear.

I wanted us to go for a drop goal straight after we scored the try , this would have meant we were then looking to ' score to win ' it would have put extra pressure on Toronto and given us 4 repeat sets ( they were looking really tired at that point )

Hello folks

Long time forum browser but not a leigh fan....in fact not a fan of any particular team.
The game has moved on since i was more involved........

In those days you got three guarantees with Leigh:

1 - at some stage in the game, Timmy Street would have a fight

2 - Norman Turley would score a drop goal

3 - half time pie would be at least 8 out of 10!

So having watched the game yesterday, i joined this forum especially to give a huge wrap to the Leigh players yesterday.
They demonstrated that heart and unity in a team game can carry you such a long way.

Personally i am not in favour of the Canadian "expansion" for several reasons:

How is it "toronto" when almost all of the players are from Lancashire,Yorkshire or Australia?

Is it still expansion if many of the very foundation clubs of your game are left to go to the wall, while the horizons are "expanded"?

If money fails to buy success...how many seasons will Mr Argyle hang around?

And a whole range of other reasons.......but

It is what it is and all i find myself doing now is deriving great pleasure in seeing that team look like exactly what it is....a bunch of blokes thrown together in a shared pursuit of fat wage packets.

From sundays game from a Leigh point of view

I thought that those guys actually looked as though playing for Leigh really mattered to them

Unlike some, i actually thought that Ridyard was superb at fullback, perhaps not quite properly covered by his wingers at times....but safe as houses and calm and composed (everything that as a player, you want your full back to be.

I thought that the pair of half backs did pretty well, although i do have a slight issue with Danny Richardsons tendency to look for the "hollywood" play too often.
The great players all do the simple things well first and foremost
At times on sunday Danny was trying to arrange a killer tackle 5 play, whilst the tackle count was at 1 or 2....resulting in 3 wasted "set up" drives

Josh woods looks a handy scrum half who would thrive with a more experienced half back partner but i agree with the comments that he needs to mix up his running game a bit.

Leigh's biggest difficulty was that once you looked wider than 7 and 6...there existed very little threat to toronto defenders....the centres and wingers posed very little in the way of attacking menace.
Unfortunately this happens to be toronto's strong point
For my money,Chase Stanley is the best defensive centre outside of super league and with Leutele they are more than equal to most teams in that area of the pitch.

Fortunately for other teams, the quality of the Toronto wingers and half backs does not match that of their centres.
Rawsthorne is bang average and higson decent but far from super league class

In the halves josh mcCrone is toilet..he is slow, small,a poor tackler and a penalty machine to boot
Blake Wallace is a lively runner with ball in hand but offers no organisational skills - the very thing a half back should have.

I thought that quite simply the Toronto forwards were smarter at slowing the ruck when they needed to.
Ashton Sims and Gadwin Springer should have both been penalised on multiple ocassions for lying on and messing around. Instead though it was young Adamson for Leigh singled out by the ref as the worst offender

All in all much to be mighty proud of for your lads and it may just be that the exit of some so called "stars" actually kick starts some good things for Leigh

Best of luck for the rest of the season icon_biggrin.gif
