Because he refuses to pay off players who he feels do not deserve it.
Personally I would be wary of ‘doing my bit’ to help the club financially, not knowing if all I am doing is throwing money into a black hole. Tough one!

I think he is speaking from a money owed point of view as in if the right buyer comes along he will write the debt off owed. Which is probably a couple of million. If that doesn't happen he will take the money back.
That's were the cash injection will come from to form a new Community Club.

| Dereks stated cash injection into any new Leigh RL community club probably suggests it will be considerably less than what 3 players, alleged to be holding out for full contract money are allegedly due from the club. Which by my best guess will be a cool £250,000+ in 2019.
Listen, there also has to be a collective responsibility from the players that they also failed to deliver their part of the deal to trigger year 2 payments. IMHO.
If I was a player paid handsomely this year by the red hot championship favourites, it would have been glaringly obvious to me that I and my team mates were required to deliver a top 4 finish on the field to secure the finances to pay the remainder of my contract.
Good luck to these players however, because as obvious as it may be to I, it was apparently not down in black and white for them in the contract.

Was it the players fault they didn't deliver or, was it the Coach/s ?

Unfortunately its the fans who will be hurt the most

| Contracts should've been incentive driven. i.e Bonus for top 4, and a further bonus for promotion.
e.g. 20k for season - 20k for top 4 - further 20k for promotion.

Has there been any negotiations with players regarding next year's contracts? Not sure how a player can be said to be holding out for full contract money if all they've been offered is the chance to completely walk away from the contract.

How attractive would those terms have been to players who could have perhaps got similar/better terms elsewhere ? I don't know by the way, i'm only pointing out the options a player may have had ?
When you think our Maruqee player was reputed to be Kurt Baptiste, you can see the problems that prospective employers of Rugby League players have !

Those figures are an example as stated. The point is,large sums of contracts are being paid, even if there is failure. Now regarding better terms, here is one example - one halfback was released that would've cost us a 1/4 of the price as a current halfback(and i know which one who i would have). There were also other players from last year who could've done a job for us this season without the culling of last years squad with a revised contract. consequently, we had to out bid interest from other clubs to pay excessive contracts to get the players this season. I believe that players could've been found and given an incentive performance driven contract, and we wouldn't be in this mess we find ourselves in today.

I believe reduced terms have been offered and subsequently declined, followed by contract severance pay offers which have also been subsequently declined.
All further 2019 contract negotiations have therefore been placed on hold.

| Hi Harold - I don't suppose you have an idea of the extent of the problem? Is this 3 players or 20 players? I assume other players have accepted reduced terms.

Totally agree - it beggars belief that our CEO is a sports lawyer by trade.

| I don't know the full extent no, but I have to say 'Montyburns' appears to be very well connected to me, and probably better placed than I to shed some light.
