Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

Ten years ago tickets weren't half as expensice and we weren't in the middle of a recession, as an independent I was impressed with both the crowd and the result, well done Leigh.

As a Leyther, you’re one of us the moment you come here to wear the shirt. I don't care where you were born, what colour you are, what religion you are, what language you speak. You're one of us, part of our culture, writing our history as you create your own, and making us stronger for it....[/quote:suio7kr3]:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10303.jpg |

You not been watching 'em long then Tony? - 'cos we put 50 past you in 2006!!
56-4 if memory serves - a virtuoso performance from Widnes 'reject', Jules "It's my round" O'Neil.....before his mid season fall from grace!! Can't remember if it was a league or Trains Cup match though - as I think we beat you in all our encounters that season......including the 'Kegwatch Challenge', pre-season "friendly"!!
It used to be Hull KR - then it was Widnes!!
Looks like we'll be looking for new 'bitches' from next season!!

953.jpg 2015 - major missed opportunity, 2016 - stronger teams = harder task (no problem there then), 2017 - OMG What now!!!:953.jpg |

| Just in case its escaped anyones attention, assuming the SL nod comes for Widnes, they don't have to win a single game = RFL ridiculed by national media and ALL other sports in the UK.

times have changed, yes they have, but why do man utd and the rest get similiar if not larger crowds. i was personally pleased with today's crowd, but obviously as a a diehard would prefer more fans. with the rl we are playing the place should be packed, as least people did not ask me HOW|have WE got on.
ps, well done boysm your 2nd have was as near to perfect as possible

'Hi-Ho Silver Lining'

| Wasn't too happy with our first half showing, lacking intensity and at times disorganised.
Luckily Basil and the coaching teams identified the numerous errors and got our lads playing to the speed they are used to in the 2nd half and that was the end of the contest.
A good team performance in the 2nd 40 and as Leigh grew with confidence Widnes's just evaporated, in fact we looked like we was going to score on every break, the defence shown by Widnes wasn't great but I also think Leigh have to take a lot of credit for that, we grind teams down and at the moment our fitness looks very impressive.
Official MOM Nanyn had a good game (yet again) but I struggled to pick out a stand out performer as everyone played so well in the 2nd 40mins.
As for Widnes they will be in SL next year such is the way RL is now run, I would have been really frustated as a Widnes fan today to see my team taken apart in a derby match but more frustated to see the 'fans' walking out on them.
However thats there problem not ours , We sit at the top of the tree and are in good form, it will be hard to maintain (especially as we still have long term injuries) and it will still be a really tough fixture v Widnes in the NRC, its obvious though our team spirit in the camp is 2nd to none and confidence is high.
Still enjoying the ride

| I live miles away from Leigh, I just can’t get to the home games but visit the away games if in proximity. Back in the ‘80s I remember watching Leigh versus Widnes when we actually feared Widnes. In one particular game the snow was so heavy on the ground that a number of supporters including myself cleared the pitch with brushes and spades, I was 14. The game was eagerly anticipated for the sole reason that both teams were of equal merit and vying for the top spot in the league.
Today a group of bureaucrats believe that selecting a team based on disparate criteria enhances the name of rugby league.
Widnes.
Poor, pathetic and clueless.
Is this really the future of rugby?
I remember watching Leigh versus Hull KR in our ’82 winning campaign, it was a televised game and the crowd was thin, it was so cold I bought a cup of tea to pour over my hands to warm them up. I loved the game, my dad and I went all over to watch us against Bramley Batley etc.
If the Rugby League hierarchy think that the long term future lies in the current strategy they are sadly mistaken.
Widnes, Super League. Bolllllllllllllloks

| Well played Today. Probably the best 40 minutes I have seen from a championship or national league side in a long long time. Our defence was woeful but you punished us in attack and made us look very very ordinary. Thursday, hopefully, will be a good day for us and we will have to dust ourselves down and come back stronger. Good luck for the rest of the Season; you've set a benchmark now!

| Before the game Charlie Caroli came into the Goose.
After he had tried to borrow some brass out of my last weeks Poker winniings I asked him how we would do today. He said a close game as he was convinced we are not as good as folk think.
I reminded him about last week at Barrow when he said the same thing. Frank he said I know more about forcasting than you not to mention Poker.
Well I told him Charlie you just can't accept what is if I said it first.
Check tomorrows forcast results Charlie. Ps I bet I beat you. I did get one wrong tho.

| I don't think Mick Govin is being given half as much credit as he deserves for that performance today, he completely turned the game on it's head! We looked uncreative and flat at best until he came on, and he had a hand in most of the tries, and a lot of breaks and half breaks came via him. He showed Duffy up today IMO, he has both a convincing dummy and a good step, along with his pace over the first 20 yards. He is our most dangerous player with ball in hand by far, and always seems to put nanyn into space on that left hand side. Ellis also went well, but for me, if govin and goulden hadn't put the performances in that they did, we may have struggled to run up such a score.
