Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

This though is what happens when you have what are basically ' public ' employees running what is to all intensive purposes a ' private ' business
Very few , if any ' civil ' operated depts would survive in the private [ real ] sector , ie break even , they dont have to , and with them having a ready available scapegoat for the poor performance , makes it even worse , if they were to try to work with the club , they no longer have an excuse
Just human nature I'm afraid
The answer ? , well you posted it a couple of days earlier
keep buying the tickets

Example of their stupidity and lack of knowledge about local things....a 'good friend' of mine is a shirt sponsor and worked on the construction of LSV. He got a call from them a year or so ago saying 'your company worked on LSV, why don't you put something back into the community'. It was pretty much as blunt as that.
The bloke had to explain that he was a sponsor and had already put a five figure sum 'back in'.
I know there are some good individuals there with good intentions, but collectively they lost the local market on day one and have done little to tempt it back which is why folk stay in/disappear back to the Park Inn, Easts, Centurion etc.
We both went to the Player of the Season do at the Park Inn, £20 a man, by far the best feed of the season, and it put a few quid in the club coffers. Yet on a matchday at (minimum) £37+vat they struggle to make anything on corporate hospitality due to what LSV charge. Work that one out!

| I was at the night at the Park Inn and talking to the club staff I don't think they will be using the LSV for many of the events after what the hotel did for them. I am lead to beleve the cost was half what the LSV wanted and the food was excellent. It will only take a mass demontration for these fools to sit up and listen. A public enquiry is also needed. Having said this I am told by some in the club that relations are improving all the time.

| Quote: Leyther_Matt "Anyone any suggestions as to how us as supporters can assist the club in improving the matchday experience at the LSV? I think a big factor in getting new supporters to keep coming back is if it's a good atmosphere etc so I certainly think we have a big part to play in helping to increase our support.
And as seems to be tradition at this time of year, and linked to the above, is it time for new flag suggestions? Already got £40 in the fun carried over from last season.'"
Get some of our more passionate fans in Leigh Market (give them a free programme soponsorship for letting us in for nothing) with a Club rep and 2 players (on rotation) handing out Leigh Tickets to selected people based on them getting behind 'our cause' and having a good day out.
'Adopt' a pub in Leigh on matchday and basically take it over (ala away match at football) before everyone heading to the LSV at the same time 'making a racket' en route - everyone in Leigh colours (People want to be part of something).
Get in the ground 20mins before kick off and start off a set of chants, get the matchday announcer involved in this and ensure the club runs out (not walks out) to a well timed set of music something modern that gets the pulse racing that can be built up before tha lads come out.
The minute the music comes on start the chanting , get the paper / tickertape ready for the entrance.
The Northstand to be the home support only and decked out with our flags all across the area.
A North Stand fanclub to be created which looks at ideas with the club of improving matchday experience (currently we don't have a matchday experience all the game)and also socialising / organising trips for away trips to set up a similar support function away.
Other stands - we need a family club and family area in our vast empty ground (think glow or Col tried something last year - the club to bite the bullet here and partially fund it), this area should be situated near the halfway line (edging near the North Stand but not next to it).
Children will generate a noise and will spend money (well Mum & Dad will spend the money).
Away fans in their own area at the far South side of the West Stand (it will generate a atmosphere for them making our ground a good away visit)

| I have said before about having a family section, and also away fans in the South West section would create a better atmosphere for all, but this would probably mean reserved seating for the West, but is that an issue? as I would think most who go in the west try to sit in the same place every time anyway.
How about "Don't stop b-LEIGH-vin" or having one with the logo on?

| Awesome post Jenky, agree with every aspect of it.
Don't see why the West would need to become reserved seating by the way glow - supporters to be asked if they're "home or away" fans when buying tickets and directed as such, with a sign on the wall at the top of the family block(s) bearing the sponsor's name and pointing out that it is the family area - put disclaimers in the programme and on the website about bad language etc in this area.

| Why should the club put out a disclaimer about using bad language. Thats really going to attract mums and children. How about trying not to use it. I swear for England but do try not to infront of kids and women.

| Some excellent ideas cropping up here. A couple of you have mentioned putting notices in next year's programme - do you know something that I don't?

Agree with every word of this Jenky. Might e-mail it to the club on monday if that's okay with you?

I meant it just as one of the reasons that it is a spefic family area rather than just another block.

| I know this may be off topic a bit, (and may have been mentioned on other posts) but having drove up and down the bypass daily often wondered why isnt there anywhere along the LSV bypass signage a mention of LRLFC? Could centurions not have one, in the style of : " LSV Home of the LEIGH CENTURIONS - next match/opponent/date, sponsered by, special offers etc" big bright sign with the logo and all the details would look quite proffesional, I know we got the big screen facing the bypass going during the season but when your driving by at 40mph is hardly noticable, a big bright billboard at the roundabout can grab more attention and be read by all sat in the usual jam at peak times.

Great idea, but I don't know how many meetings at LSV that would take to come to fruition!

its not a disclaimer its a request, an as yet un-heeded request but still a request.
