I was giving you an example of were the Cap has been used as mitigation for a defeat to a SL side.
When Man Utd beat Liverpool last week I did hear Brendan Rogers saying finances have a lot to do with it as Utd have more money than us.........

Sorry pal, you've lost me.
One question. Do you think the salary cap should be increased for clubs outside of SL?

If a club can afford to spend the money id have no problem with it in principle.
If an owner wants to put in large sums of cash to achieve a personal goal or dream and write off the required amounts and is not expecting it back and willing to lose it if the gamble fails then YES.
If an owner puts it in as a directors loan to the company interest free or not then NO as its a gamble.

So why are you sick of the excuses?
I don't see why DB should be held back from spending money to recruit better players for Leigh Centurions so long as he doesn't break the salary cap. An increased one that is.
The way i see it is that it seems DB is making a bit of a noise to the rfl regarding the salary cap outside of SL ,and to me he is being pro-active for next season regarding this matter. I hope he succeeds.

I don't think its sinking in mate, I will make it nice and simple for you......
Presuming we are spending 1m full cap this year and as a very loose guide id expect a turnover in the region of 1.6m along the lines of the following........
Approx. Income 1.35m
500/550k RFL Distribution
Season tickets and Gate Money
Sponsorship/ Advertising
LISA/ Retail Sales/ Misc. income etc.
Approx. Expenditure 1.5m
1m Playing salaries inc bonuses
Staff salaries
Associated overhead.
The figures are budgetary and from memory but as you will see at a cap of 1.0m a Championship owner/ board will likely have to cover 100-150k short fall pa minimum.
Do the maths if we spend more we lose more or the owner has to fund more that is, this is the cycle that has hurt us and many other clubs time and time again in this sport historically indeed in sport generally.
Its the very same cycle that the salary cap is in place to try and police and prevent.
One possible way round it would be to put a system in place were by as I said in response to an earlier question if an owner wants to spend his cash as long as he demonstrates he has it and its not at the clubs risk id have no problem with that under a strict monitoring system. If the additional cash needed to finance the higher cap was say deposited with the RFL and distributed to the club as additional distribution monies and not written in the clubs accounts as a loan so no come backs or risk to the club then maybe special dispensation could be given to clubs with owners willing to do so?
I rather doubt many would be up for that though.

Oh, I get it. Our aspirations to get into SL comes at a loss. And DB is throwing money away.
Question? Can you tell me why DB would like to have the salary cap increased? According to your figures, he would be a fool. Personally i don't think he is. Your business plan comes across as a loss cause.
Has it never occurred to you that DB passion and aspirations are to get into to SL, and he wishes for an increased salary cap to try and do that. Yes it might be more money from his own pocket, but there might be a slight increase in attendances as well. If you stick to your business plan,It would more than likely stagnate the business. Once in SL dividends could pay itself back with a packed LSV occasionally and more central funding.

| Quote: Lowton_Sparrow "Bit daft to start inventing conspiracy theories. I still think the Super 8s are the way to go. Franchising was a total disaster all round but was brought in because straight promotion and relegation didn't work either; the relegated SL team beat everyone & went straight back up, in order to beat them or to stay up in SL if another team would have to spend a fortune, gamble on staying up (not likely) and face financial turmoil if they failed. Saying that though I do think it needs some tweaks. The transfer deadline was a farce, that needs to be pushed back at least a month and a one year minimum contract length enforced. Also while you can't carry all your points through to The Qualifiers I do think you should carry some though, that'd punish teams like Wakefield who openly said they weren't bothered about their 23 Super League Games while rewarding teams like Leigh who've become as good as they can be in The Championship. I think we'll come back stronger next year but we can't keep up this level getting nowhere forever (look at what happened to Featherstone); if that does happen it'll be wasted potential & lower SL clubs will know they've nothing to fear & go back to the attitude during franchising where ambition was punished. Do think as well Super League clubs shouldn't be making any decisions on how the sport is run, how often do you hear "Super League Clubs voted to..." when that now affects all the other clubs, why are we letting 12 clubs (with a notoriously bad track record (franchising, Dual Code, Scrapping reserves)) run the sport for all 38 clubs?!'"
Where is the 'Like' button ?
Not much I can add to that.
Maybe if the Salary Cap was brought closer together. So if SL is £1.8m & Championship £1m, then for those Clubs who can prove affordability to the RFL, by way of showing finances, average gates & sponsorship incomes, bridge the gap by half, so £1.4m Championship & £1.8m SL.
For me the biggest problem in the 8's has been an unwillingness to adapt & tailor the play/approach against SL Clubs. Here I am not talking wholesale changes, just some fine tuning, smarter RL against KR & Wakefield Trinity Schoolgirl's when in a commanding position would have seen us through at least to 5th place & the £million game, as it is I can't see any Championship team other than Bradford having a cat in hell's chance.
Still, we will be back in the North Stand again tomorrow, praying for miracles.

Reffy I'm sure you agree our next 2 games will be extremely hard , I expect the Bulls to come out fired up tomorrow, knowing a win will put our dreams to dust, and even if we win , next week will be harder still whatever folk think of Widnes they are very hard to beat on their own midden, whatever happens in the next couple of weeks I myself will be back next season in the West Stand , because I'm a Leyther as you and most who post on here are.Cmon you Leythers.

| If the Bulls come out fired up then we must be patient and ride the storm, keep telling themselves that it is an 80 minute game and then we have enough skill to beat them. Lest I forget, the players must do what the referee says and don't be in his face.
