Quote: Tipster Ste "I wouldn't get too hung about sustainability, yes perfect in a perfect world but out if interest how many sporting clubs are sustainable in the UK??'"

So you're happy to have somebody else subsidising your season ticket again as Arthur did?

The bottom line ste is that is what it boils down to, do you want a business or a charity?

The success you want will only ever happen if the club does become sustainable, we just arent big enough to attract the necessary personal investement nor should we want it

I suppose the most obvious is Manchester United, but just because it is difficult doesnt mean it isnt possible or desirable, in fact I'd suggest being sustainable would be the best way to attract a seriously ' minted ' benefactor

Are you seriously saying Utd are sustainable over the last 24 years?

Agreed it should be all clubs aim to be sustainable but in reality it hardly ever happens.

I'm with Starbug on this one. It's fine to have a generous, passionate benefactor but the problem comes if/when that benefactor has to/wants to leave. I thought that the 're-born' club was committed to self-sustainability, as the only way forward. To be fair, that still may be the case, but I have my doubts.

Whilst it is brilliant to be part of the success that the club is currently enjoying, I would still like it to be around for my grandkids to enjoy too.

Spot on Alan, didn't get the impression when the new shareholders took over that ongoing individual funding would be the way forward - the club in essence would fund itself in time. That may well be the case and I hope it is, individuals pumping money in only ends in one way with us - we have years of history that prove it.

Enjoy the ride and see where it leads. I have to say that we do seem to putting better structures in than previously, but the experience on the board initially seems to be reducing bit by bit

There will probably always be a gap that the owners meet Alan until we are in SL, hence the pooling of resource when the club was on its knees to meet the projected shortfall. That was the basic difference - the shortfall isnt a shock and you know how it will be covered
The goal posts moved with the change in structures, creating a pathway to a huge prize that an ambitious club would target. It will take a while to build the income streams to become 'self sufficient' but we are fortunate that we have a passionate and ambitious owner who wants our club back at the top table and is prepared, motivated and capable to do something about achieving that.
It will be around for your grandkids and their grandkids Alan, as long as we have fans who buy tickets and support the club, concern is great its passion whereas disruption/pooh stirring and whingeing isnt.
Grip your seat and enjoy the ride, we have the best year for a very long time to look forward to and we fans have a huge job to do spreading the gospel

Hope that's not me you are accusing? icon_wink.gif

Other genuine fans share my concerns. They've been around to see it happen before (the potential perils of one-person ownership, however passionate and generous that person may be) We shouldn't necessarily mistake their concerns for negativity

Think I covered that Alan, there is no problem with concerns, its when it engulfs your life you turn into some sort of depressive who wont leave the door due to concerns about being mugged, getting knocked down by a bus, trampled by a herd of rampaging wilderbeast etc
IMO part of the deep rooted problem in a lot of RL communities is that we focus far too much on the negatives to take our sport to the platform it deserves. You know what, happens everyday and nothing is ever perfect - enjoy the good times to the full and only regret what you didn't do as lifes too short
