The only way you will ever get the crowds back watching Leigh is by buying recognised SL or NRL players who will walk the Championship unbeaten, or almost, and then securing a place in Super League. Leigh do not have the finances, so unfortunately the crowds will not return. You can talk about ways of getting the crowds flocking back until the cows come home, but it won't happen unless a hell of a lot of money is spent with a millionaire backer and, unfortunately, Leigh haven't got one. It's just a fact of life.

A winning team, better opposition and promotion/relegation reinstated should help crowds increase. All this hopefully is just around the corner. And we already have a winning team, we just need to improve it to become a promotion winning team in a couple of years.

I'm just stating a fact of life. Unless there is a lot of money to spend, then yes, unfortunately Leigh will continue to struggle. Where they stay is relative to how much the other teams in the league spend on recruitment.

You know yourself, you can bang the drum, shout about Leigh from the rooftops, but unless there is a fantastic team with some big name signings on the field, then the crowds will never come flocking back. It's just how it is. No ones fault. There are too many other things to do and watch these days.

dont think it would require a marquee signing.has been said on another thread we have the slowest backs in the league.get 2 or 3 speedsters in who can score from anywhere on the park and play flowing rugby instead of driving up the midddle and it will get people in and jumping off the seats.just look at when ryan gets the ball people expect something special to happen.we dont have to spend big but spend wisely there are players out there in our league who are lighning quick.

Obviously big Sam not been the brightest spark is still denying it though.

With a millionaire backer I'd be waiting for him/her to fly the coup which would probably destroy our great club once and for all.
The way to get the crowds back is to build a community club from the strong foundation we now have. A club that fans can feel connected to and part of. A club that fans can trust in and feel proud of. A club that grows on the momentum of solid and sensible growth.
With that said, in the immediate future, I think we need to sign a group of solid players that will give us a stronger and larger squad and allow us to really push for a top two spot next season. Sign a marquee player and we will still have too many gaps to do that (even if he didnt get injured !)

I agree with a community club, but without a hell of a lot of cash you will never attract the quality players needed to bring the crowds back.
I couldn't care less if you agree or not, I'm just stating a fact of life. Without a huge cash investment Leigh will always struggle along on crowds of 1200 - 1300. For example, take the cash away from Huddersfield, the players would leave and they would drop to crowds of 600 - 700.

Leigh East and Leigh Miners fill the role you describe here perfectly and the few niche rugby fans who want to involve themselves in more than just going to watch a succesful club once a week are adequately catered for by these excellent organisations.
The only way to take the professional club in Leigh to the next level is for a significant injection of cash, and if this was used wisely rather than just being spent on overseas contracts then it could be sustainable even iif the "millionaire" finally did back out.
The alternative isn't for us to "pack in" as some in here suggest, but it is to continue with crowds of less than 2000 and a team that never really troubles the RL world.
