Have you had a beer tonight, John?! The only clubs in rugby league who aren't a stepping stone are Wigan, Leeds and Saints, and even then they've got no chance if the NRL or rugby union come calling for players or coaches. Does this make Super League a 'feeder league', even rugby league a 'feeder sport'? There will always be bigger clubs ready to take our best players, but likewise we do it to the smaller clubs by signing their best players, and in return we get the ones not quite good enough for Super League, and our released players are safe in the knowledge that there is a level waiting for them.

If you want to pull the wool over your own eyes and live a pipe dream then so be it some of us are realists.
When Ian Millward came to the UK in the late 90s do you think he believed he could pick up a small town team and take them to the summit of world RL and world club championship glory????..............Stepping stone ta achieve his dreams! Had he not had off the field problems we would never have seen the guy again. It was either a decent paid assistant role in Aus or a well paid head coach role in Championship with a decent budget and squad and a realistic chance to land a SL job again no brainer.
Do you think Murphy came here from Saints in 69/70 thinking he could make Leigh the household name in world RL. Yes he won a Challenge Cup and Championship in 82 but reality is Warringto flash the cash bigger town bigger club................Stepping stone!
All greats will reach the top eventually we will never be at the top we need to identify the potential greats and ride on the back of there sucess for a couple of years and slowly build a steady club without overspending. Thats the way i see it as realist. We wont ever be a Wigan, Saints, Leeds, Bradford, Warrington dare i say it a Widnes.

Luakiki left Hull for Wigan in search of trophies. When you leave Leeds, Wigan or Saints, you're either going to the NRL or your career is on it's way down. |

We are based in a borough of the biggest RL club in England and one of the biggest most famous in world RL. If thats not enough were 15/20mins from Warrington and Saints and also Salford.

Its not a case of negative thinking my whole point was if WE LEIGH CENTURIONS are to be successful and ever join the top table we have to find a way like we seem to be doing to be self sufficient and beat the odds.
If this means being a feeder type club by finding and producing young talent both as coaches and players and we have success on the pitch along the way then so be it.
It has to be better than the tryed and failed method of supplimenting the income with a rich owner and throwing money at over the hill players and coaches who have come for one last pay day.

Its a shame when people like you accept that leigh are now just a feeder club/stepping stone for the likes of Salford,Castleford Wakefield etc.
In fact we might as well just pack it in. |
