He should stay here till 2014....... if we don't get a franchise next time around then he would move on, but he needs to finish the job he`s started at Leigh IMO

Quote: Tipster Ste "Offered, but said no thanks to Wakey!'"

strange on that considering he was in the club reception all suited and booted waiting for his interview icon_lol.gif
Maybe he was just meeting up with John Kear for a general chit chat though............

Someone else stated why would he want to go to wakefield and not stay at Leigh ???
Hmmmm let me think........Millward obviously saw Leigh as a stepping stone back into Super League.
Do you really believe that he wants to stay in the championship for another 3 years or more ?
I am pretty sure that in 3 years time Halifax will be the team to come up, with Leigh outsiders when the RFL
may decide to expand the competition.
Also do you think that Leigh can pay him the salaries that are on offer at Super League ?
Get real.....whichever (if Any ) super league positions are offered to him he will take it.

Quote: Leyther_Matt "As good as Millward has been for us, I think we have to be realistic that Leyth was only ever going to be a stepping stone for him to get back in to Super League - a man of his talents deserve to be plying his trade at the top level. Dare I say it, it would probably reduce our expenditure somewhat if we hired a lower-paid coach to replace him.

No doubt whatsoever that he will give his undivided attention to the job in hand until the minute if/when he leaves.'"

someone talking sense and being realistic on this subject

He is reported to be on a SL coaches salary already, it isn't all about money it's about ambition and the clubs already there in SL are obviously a bigger draw than waiting around another 3 years, as for Halifax being the next contender you base your opinion on what? (bearing in mind I have never thought we should be a SL team) crowds? our average is the same (if this year not slightly higher) our facilities are arguably better than a number of SL clubs now and are certainly the best in this division, our geographical position is virtually the same as Fax's in relation to SL neighbours, our youth structure re scholarships and reserves have been in position longer and with next years extended scholarship scheme will be one of, if not the best outside of SL and better than some in SL, our revenue streams in 3 years will be the equal of any in the Championship IF we can last in the short term, so IMO Halifax and Leigh are at the moment (not counting we already have one box ticked re winning a trophy) neck and neck.
But who's to say any team from this div will be 'promoted' as the RFL have (afaik) not promised this time to promote any club.

Ian has put a lot of time and effort into the current set up.

Not many know this, but a few weeks before Saints came in for him, he had asked the then current board about his contract and they where umming and ahhing about it.

Had they offered him an extension he believes Leigh would have been world Champions instead of Saints a few seasons ago, thats how confident he is of his abilities.

He told me that himself years ago, and it is my belief he will see out his current contract here at least.

Also don't forget it was Ian who recomended Terk to the board so if he does go, be sure he'll have someone in mind that shares his vision.

Our club is aiming to put structures in place, to make us irresistible to SL, in three years' time. Of course, a lot of hard work is needed to accomplish that, but we are going to give it a damned good shot.

Terk not a patch on IM, just a failed clone.

Well after working with both I rate them both highly, Basil is/was a better coach but both are up there in reading a game and players, our Dave worked closely with Terk and rates him highly.

Not many players he took over did pal, although to be fair IM was a very hard act to follow, Terk was always asking IM what to do.

for me Terk was a suit coach/ coaching director and needed a track suit one as an assistant as he was more of an ideas and structure man he did some things which were considered daft at the time but are now in use, I dont think the players understood where he 'was at', I hear what you say re the players but there were some who also rated him, but anyone following Basil would have had a hard job as he was and still is on some things light years ahead of anyone else.

Tomorrow, (Thursday) sees our only game in a 25 day period. What better day for an insensitive SL club to make such an announcement? That way we could damage the morale of the Leigh team and supporters on a rare match day. I've read a lot about how this would affect Wakey and Cas, but it's perhaps worth stating there's another club - Leigh - to whom he is actually contracted at the moment.

Could not agree more Alan but there is that much rumour and speculation it is a waste of time delaying the inevitable the players will already know if its fact

I was a big fan of Turk. Hope that IF Basil goes he has got recommendations of who should follow in his footsteps.
