Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied

How come Gateshead--Shefield, Barrow, Halifax, Widnes ect ect ect
all have salary cap but much better classs of player and in the case of
GATESHEAD n Sheffield they are still signing class players
THATS THE PART I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW GATESHEAD can keep on signing when there crowds are poor

| Got to agree there the only thing is if these sides have gone sh*t or bust this season they can't continue this recruitment next so as long as we don't go down we'll be top of the tree next season simples!  |

Stewart.waste of a shirt.... Donlan done nothing Nanyn ok
Alstead ok Smith playing in wrong position.. Jock played too much RL
needs a long rest.. Armi unfit... Hobbo nuts but a good player
Regarding playing well in the 21,s you have to get real we are playing second rate teams in the 21,s and to be honest there is only a couple of stand out players who i personally think are good enough to step up every now n again .......
This season we have recruited very poor brought in players in the backs without pace and forwards who are weak and not strong enough to turn players and break the line ect out of the present first team squad i think only 6 have played owt like thats not very good out of a squad of 20 odd
players.... |

While i would like to see Leigh do well, your miles behind on the recruitment and Millward is no longer familiar with this division. When he arrives he will have one hell of a tough job on his hands.
Second comings arent always great.

How does a "big" NL1 club fall behind just about everyone of its 'competitiors' in that league so quickly ![]()
2006 should of been a great year for us, newly relegated from SL we had an outstanding opportunity present itself and TBF - IMO the club worked hard behind the scenes to make the most of it.
* Automatic promotion up for grabs,
* A surplus of SKY cash,
* A more more professional ethic adopted from the previous 12 months,
* A F/T Chief Exec
* The deadwood cleared from both the coaching and playing register,
* An excellent off season player recruitment,combining an exciting blend of youth, experience and class,
* A F/T squad assembled that was in many observers eyes one of the best two outside SL,
However the final last piece of the jigsaw, that vital all important cog was then IMO either overlooked or not recognised.
* A proven experienced coach who could execute it all
And we are now where we are but as I'm sure some would say, I suppose hindsight is a marvellous thing..

And anyway if we were going to down the road of a young, up & coming coach,one had just proven outstanding promise and shown great credentials by taking a relative unknown squad of players in France to within 80 mins of The 2005 Challenge Cup Final.
He then delivered SL status the following year IIRC |

We spoke to him in 2005 when they played in the cup at Blackpool along with Tommy Gallagher , but a deal had already been done earlier in the year
